Topic: Interesting guitar find (Joe I'd be honoured if you gave your input!!)

I own a Vintage Icon V100 in honeyburst. Nice piece of guitar I picked up in London (London Guitar Show 2007). It's my main-stay guitar and it looks like a decent Jimmy Page replica kinda guitar. I was trying to show a friend what the guitar looked like today via instant messaging. So anyway I took a wander over to the JHS website who distribute Vintage guitars and they have all the photos on the website...

And then I found this!

Look at that?! It's the "Jazz and Blues Model" hence the JBM but it looks exactly like a JB Les Paul...? So, a Joe Bonamassa style Les Paul copy at under the £400 mark...? It appears to have all the works, the different style knobs etc!

So why have I never heard about this before? And Joe, if you're reading this, I'd LOVE to know what you think of it (if you knew anything about it even)

We discussed this a while ago...

In response to seeing them initially:

Im flattered really.  It says a lot that kids want a cheap JB version.  Its really cool, I do wanna play one though and see if they are good playing guitars at least. This is actually inspiring me to make a phone call to some friends at Epiphone.. Thanks for the heads up.  If someone gets one let me know how it is.
Cheers

In response to someone that got one:

I am happy that you like your guitar.. I am unsettled by the Wilkenson copy..  I have never played one.. nor will they send me one for inspection..  I dont want a free guitar.. I have plenty..  I just want to make sure they are good.   Again I am happy that you like the guitar.. I am not happy with that company though.  These are the same people that tape you secretly without your notice then you tube it..  not my idea of straight up..  The Epiphones will be better..  I will see to it myself..

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Just got a V100 in Flame Iced Tea sunburst. I'd have gone for the JB but as JB himself doesn't seem too keen on the way it's been done it'd seem disrespectful - also the pups, woods and hardware are the same on the IT and it's a fair bit cheaper - I am a Yorkshireman! I've played Gibsons that weren't as good tonally or as playable as this guitar.  The fret ends are perfect - no rough edges at all.  Vintage make some really good guitars at stupidly low prices. Way better than epi - imo - for much less money.
I wish they'd behaved better over their JB copy - it's a shame if they've pulled it as it was properly cheap compared to anything else with THAT look, and going by how good a standard V100 is, amazing value.

I just picked up a (2nd hand but mint) Vintage V100 Icon Lemon Drop (Peter Green) last night for £180 ($295)! Loads of guitar for that money and my first Les Paul type guitar. Looking forward to playing it lots over the long Easter break- I feel a bit of Green Manalishi coming on....

Happy Easter all.

That model, of all the Vintage icon V100 range, seems to me to be the best value, because of the different tones available from the reversed and out of phase neck pup. You can get the finish a little more authentic, apparently, by applying some french polish - even an old guitar should still retain SOME shine.  I bet T-cut would do it perfectly. No responsibility accepted!  If I do get an icon one at some point I'll give it a try.

In this video they claim the J B M  stands for Jazz Blues model! WTF? The demo guy almost kept his face straight as he said it!

Yeah, Gav's good at that.  Check out some of his demos on youtube: there's one where he's explaining the Wilkinson push-fit trem arm. The 'nearly straight face' works a treat when he suggests that it can be adjusted if you like it floppy... Also, listening to Gav's playing is rarely a chore, even for Joe fans - he's pretty good.
Vintage are usually described in the magazines as A) punching above their weight - they really are ridiculously good for their prices - and would still be if the prices doubled; and B) Cheeky.
