Topic: Buddy Guy - Living Proof
Hadn't seen a topic for this new album yet, but I was wondering around the Billboard site the other day and saw that Buddy was top of the charts with his new album 'Living Proof' (and rightly so that it is!)... And MAN, at 74, Buddy's got it, probably at the top of his game still - the tracks on this album are AMAZING
Track listing is as follows:-
1. 74 Years Young
2. Thank Me Someday
3. On The Road
4. Stay around a little longer (feat. Mr B.B. King)
5. Key Don't Fit
6. Living Proof
7. Where the Blues begins (feat. Carlos Santana)
8. Too Soon
9. Everybody's got to go
10. Let the door knob hit Ya
11. Guess What
12. Skanky
74 Years young is a great opener to the album, as it begins a traditional slide-heavy guitar part, which ventures into classic Buddy playing, and leaves you totally amazed From the first track, it's like Buddy shouting: 'OI IM STILL HERE AND AS GREAT AS EVER'
'Key Don't Fit' is a 'red house-esque written lyric', which is typical Buddy, and made me question why I don't listen to him as often as I do. (every track is superb on the album, but these are all stand-out songs for me)
'Where the blues begins' is a draw-jopping (slur intended!) feature with Santana (the shared solo's just scream emotion from start to finish ) and is an awesome treat to include another incredible talent on the new release...
Now... The cream of the crop on this CD for me HAS to be the track with Mr King 'Stay Around A Little Longer' -
This song is a tribute from Buddy and BB to God for Thanking Him for 'keeping them here a little longer'... It's a song which makes you think more about making the most of life, and is such a joyous and beautiful song that, well... It had me in tears lets say Everything about the song is it's forte: The wonderful chord progression, the amazing lyrics, and OH BOY the joint solo just had me on the edge of my seat everytime a note was played!
The highlight of the track however, is Buddy and BB's conversation from the middle to the end of the song, which is just as beautiful as a song can ever get (the 'Buddy voice in the left speaker' and 'BB in the right speaker' is a nice stereo touch too )... Little lines about 'not being done yet' and 'you got that right B, I spend many nights listening to you play' just put the biggest smile on my face
If you don't hear this album... You'll be missing out
