Select snowfall events in San Diego and San Diego County:

"The Great Storm of January 1882": At the official reporting station, flakes were melting as quickly as they were falling; however, 18 miles east of downtown, three inches fell in the El Cajon Valley. The mountains were hit hardest by the storm with a total of three feet in the town of Campo, 35 miles east of downtown after snowing for four consecutive days.
January of 1937: Snow flurries were reported at Lindbergh Field.
January of 1949: A major storm arrived in San Diego with snow levels down to as low as 1,000 feet. Three feet fell at the 6,000 foot level at Mount Laguna, located about 45 miles east of San Diego. Snow fell within city limits in places such as La Jolla, Point Loma, and Camp Miramar.
December 1967: A storm in Southern California brought snow to some areas after bringing strong thunderstorms, lightning and hail. Snow fell in areas of San Diego such as Del Mar, Encinitas, Vista and La Jolla, Clairmont, University City, East San Diego and North Park.
January 1990: No official report of snow at Lindbergh Field, but 14 inches of snow fell on Mount Laguna.
I find no record of an accumulated inch in the city. ? In '49 I was here and remember seeing snow fall, but it melted as fast as it hit the ground. I lived in North Park then.

Re: Three -Word -Review.....

I remember the winter in 1967.  Lived in Lake Elsinore which is 50 miles north of San Diego.  I walked to school and there was a couple of inches of snow on the ground that stuck for quite awhile.  A really awsome event for this young 4th grade California girl.
After the 5th grade my mom and I went to upstate NY and I experienced walking to school in a mountain of snow.  I was so glad to get back to CA the next year.

Which mountain of snow did you walk to school in? I need to check my Good Morning Little School GIrl Little White Book of Snowballs fired like cold rockets by me (as a little school boy, too) which impacted mercilessy against dainty woolen winter caps and see if a much delayed apology is in order...
