Topic: Joe playing Marshall JVM 410s Byron Bay Bluesfest Australia

Well hi everyone.  Sorry ive been away from this forum for so long. A lot has been going on in my life. Ive posted this before and as i didnt get anything back from the man himself, i feel compelled to post it again...and live in hope!
Im a new guy on this forum and obviously a fan of Joe's music like yourselves.
I had, for the first time, the privelage of seeing Joe last friday at the Bluesfest here in Byron Bay Australia, very near to where i live.  I have to say Joe blew me away with his brilliant performance and presence.  I had so many emotions going on at once, hairs on the back of my neck, goose pimples and something between tears and laughter, of the sort of 'unknowing' feelings his music created in my mind.
His amps?  Well not the usual line-up of Silver Jubilee etc etc etc; -but two Marshall JVM 410 heads and cabs.  I have heard all his albums and like i say had never heard Joe play live before last friday, (good friday), and i thought his sound was superb.
I have been a lead guitarist since i was 12, 30 yrs ago, and i am and always will be a 'tone head.'  I understand what good tone is and what it does and i can say the sound he got out of these 410s was brilliant to put it mildly.
Joe.......IF, you should ever read this post, i would love to know what you thought of this rig compared to your usual rig and would be interested to know which of the four, (albeit eight channels), you decided to use to get your sound.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the JVM 410;  it has four seperate channels each with three stages of gain.  As you go from clean channel to the next, the gain is increased each time, and each channel, like i say, has three stages of gain. So all in all up to twelve different sonic tones.  A lot to think about and too much choice in my opinion, but that takes nothing away from the sound if you really need twelve options.
Yes, you guessed it, i own one!  Not the 410 but the two channel 50 watt 205, same but half the channels, (simpler for my head to get around, and i only use one channel anyway).  My 1973 Les Paul custom sounds amazing through it and i can get some great tones out of it.  I sometimes play it stereo using a JCM 2000 alongside, running dry with the delays through the JVM.

Well Joe...great gig and now i have to ask you...... When are you coming back to Oz?
You blew us all away here down under mate and as you only played here, Sydney and Melbourne, you have given us a taste we cannot forget and we want more of it.
All the best for the rest of your tour.  Mick Brehaut

Hi Mick,

Thanks for posting. I also have a 410H and it's exciting to hear that the man himself used it:-) It would be very interesting to hear what he think of it - compared to his own rig. So dear master of the blues - Joe, if you ever see this post.....  smile

Did you happen to see what kinds of cabs he used? I guess he had the plexiglass-thing in front of the cabs.

Keep rocking!

count me as a lover of the JVM as well.....i bought a 410H shortly after they were released......as I have gigged out with folks have been very complimentary of the tones.  great amp.

Hi Andre ,

Ive just had a look at the pic's i took and the video clips and yes he was indeed using 2 Marshall 4x12 cabs.  Couldn't tell by the photos what model they were.
Fantastic gig, great musician and seems like a really good guy to me.  Longing to see him return to Australia sometime!
I have the JVM 205 head through a 1960AX (Greenbacks) 4x12 cab and i love the sound i get with both my '73 Les Paul Custom and my Fender Strat, although the Les Paul is my fav' i have to say.  Bit of a sentimental thing though as i have owned it since i was 16 yrs old; -but the sound IS awesome.  I love the JVM amps and believe they will have iconic status in years to come, like the JCM 800s.
All the best to you Andre,
Mick  (Fastfret)

Hey Masque from Kentucky....your spot on!  Absolutely superb amps.  These JVMs are gaining one hell of a reputation.
Do you find the four channels a bit kind of 'over-kill' or can you get your head around those 12 sonic tones?
All the best,
Fastfret
