Topic: Decisions, decisions...
Hi All,
I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice as there seems to be 100's of years of experience hanging around here.
I have only been playing for around a year and got into it a bit tentatively after I picked up my wife's acoustic that she decided she couldn't play.
This inspired me to get an electric; a Behringer MetAlien (I guess it's a super-strat in the Ibanez mould). What attracted me to it was the possibility to have a try-out with an electric guitar without having to buy into the amps etc because it can be connected to a PC via USB and use a cut-down version of 'Guitar Rig'. Long story short, I loved it and bought a Peavey Vypyr 15 to noodle away on. I'm still at the solid state end of the spectrum though and I'm starting to appreciate different tones more and more.
To this end, I want to add an LP style guitar and there are several that are within my range (no Epi JB, though )
The one's I'm considering are...
- Epi LP Standard Plus Top (transparent blue)
- Vintage V100 (probably Iced Tea)
- Tokai LS48
- Hagstrom Swede (left-field choice)
...so you can tell what my budget range is.
If anyone has any pros/cons on any of these I'd welcome any comments.
I haven't tried any out yet, but I'd like an idea of what to look for when I do ( 'be prepared' etc)
Also, I'm considering building a valve amp from a kit like http://www.ampmaker.com/se-5a-5w-britis … 126-0.html
Are these a good idea, or just false economy?
I know which end of a soldering iron to hold without needing a hospital trip, but the cabinet I'd have to source elsewhere (power tools tend to have something against me)
Cheers.
