Re: Football Worldcup 2010
would agree with the 'hammer, - it was overall from a football point of view an awful World Cup. The ball did not do what it was designed to do (allow more goals), as a ball it was a complete and utter failure. And too many players looked tired and the coaches were negative.
The game is too fast now and the stakes too high not to have some sort of 4th official with access to replays for key decisions. I do not buy this guff about whatever the rules are at the highest level have to be the same at grass roots, football is very much a progressive sport where you get better with age and experience so as the requirement and need for technology increases you have to provide it. Although a balance has to be kept that keeps authority with the referee. There is supposed to be a "respect" campaign going on, that needs to ramp up a gear or 2 and come into line with rugby.
A friend of mine who is a sports journalist gets back any day so it will be interesting to hear his opinion of the tournament as I suspect for those that were there it was great.
I think that we have way too many pundits and way too much analysis pre and post match (says he jumping on the pundit bandwagon).....
