Topic: Strymon El Capistan delay pedal - check it out!

I was urged by Jim Price of Omega Amps to check out the YouTube vids for this pedal, from a maker I'd never heard of, and I have to say, they sound amazing:

They're a bit pricey at $299.00 (too rich for my blood) but check out this A/B comparison with an Echoplex 3

Hard to tell from the video but they sound pretty similar to me.

Enjoy!

Yep Strymon makes some killer stuff.  I want their Orbit Flanger and possibly the El Capistan for a smaller rig.  The El Capistan is the new hot ticket "tape delay emulator" right now.  It sits among the Skreddy Echo, Empress Superdelay (and Vintage Modified version) as the most desired digital tape echo emulators out there.  For my money, I'd probably spend a little extra and get the Empress as it can do SO MUCH more.  On a clean amp like Travis's Two Rock Sterling (SSS clone), the differences are far less between the Strymon and the Echoplex.  My DD-3 or Line 6 DL4 can sound very similar to my Echoplexs on a clean tone too.  For me, the major differences are when you start adding some dirt.  Nothing on this planet (yet) quite sounds like an Echoplex with a little wear on the tape into a full blast Marshall plexi.

Thank you for posting.  I never heard of this company but that delay pedal is so smooth and nice sounding.  Delays are hard to judge online in my opinion, but this one really is slick.  And it doesn't matter to me if I just bought a brand new Carbon Copy, I'm always in the market for new stuff! -S.

Re: Strymon El Capistan delay pedal - check it out!

I've got this pedal. It's THE BEST tape sim out there. I also owned a Empress Vintage Modified Super Delay (VMSD). For TAPE sounds, the El Capistan RULES. The VMSD does tons of other things, but I prefer the El Capistan. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask...

It do indeed sound nice, and I love the small foootprint.  But, I'm with StratPaulGuy, I'll take the real deal (Space Echo 301 for me) any day.
