Topic: Bixonic Expandora

Anyone have any experience? I was talking to Lance Lopez on facebook the other night, and a guy popped into the thread saying he had 2 for sale... i bought one and Lance bought the other... truthfully I only bought it cuz Lance told me too, and that they are Rev. Billy G approved. Cant wait to get it  and mess around with it!

Pretty much the worst set of youtube videos for an effect I have seen...

Hope it sounds 1/10th as good as those videos.

Re: Bixonic Expandora

Well, over the years I have tried some of the different models going back to the original one, just because of it being "Billy G approved".  I have learned to heed what the good ol' Rev Willy G suggests with some caution as his applications are more... exotic than my own.  I was always underwhelmed and never pulled the trigger on one;  I am far too demanding of a overdrive/distortion pedal, where I expect them to be great with single notes AND chord clarity... also I demand a great deal of dynamics.  To me it was no better than a DOD Grunge pedal.  Anyhow, that said, it may really tickle your fancy.  Which version did you get?  I think there are 3 different ones.

It's version one... I'll be using as a fuzz

Re: Bixonic Expandora

Ahh the "tuna can". I have a couple of them myself. If there's nothing wrong with the units themselves you'll have a blast. Use a battery in them or they pop. Also make sure the power leads from the battery is good and not tie wrapped to the center post. If it is, clip off the tie wrap and double check the wires and you'll be good to go! Hope you got it for a good price. Enjoy!

well... not meaning to be a jerk, but why not use a fuzz as a fuzz?  just wondering.

Re: Bixonic Expandora

i dont think you're a jerk lol. I'm just trying some things out.. i also wanna test out the ox fuzz, and when Joe's signature fuzzface comes out, I check that out too, if i can afford it.I got a pretty good deal on this, so if I cant use it, I'll just re-sell it.

ok good... i know sometimes intent of tone is not well expressed in written dialogue.  Well I hope you enjoy it;  I just went through, and still have a couple of pedals left, a mass clearance of gear.  I got physically and financially tired from the constant GAS.  Believe it or not, a cheap fuzz on the cheap that has never disappointed me and will never leave my stable is the seymour duncan tweak fuzz.

Re: Bixonic Expandora

i appreciate the advice... thats one of the reasons I love this forum so much. I learn so much, and everyone brings something different to the table. My GAS has just led me to buy a Marshall JCM 800. Well, its not nearly what I was expecting, and am already looking for a replacement... I know how GAS goes lol.

Re: Bixonic Expandora

I never owned a fuzz pedal. Only blues drivers, overdrives, and tube screamers. Are fuzz pedals really that different?

I'll probably wait for Joe's to come out and get that one. What brand is releasing it and when?

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Bixonic Expandora

I'm not sure when. But it's gonna be a signature fuzz face. I'm assuming it's just like the one that Joe uses that was supposed to be for Eric Johnson

Nic, yes they can be VERY different.  To me a good fuzz hints of power tubes on the verge of exploding, while overdrives sound too much like preamp distortion.  Most good fuzz boxes use germanium and silicon transistors as opposed to IC chips and LED clipping like overdrive/distortions.  There is a virtual sea of options out there for fuzz, look into youtube and be prepared to waste the day away.

Re: Bixonic Expandora

I don't want to derail the thread but with all this Fuzz mention...

If you guys get a chance, try out a Fulltone '70 Fuzz.  It's instant Eric Johnson in-a-pedal which to me is perfect since his fuzzface sound is my favorite and evidently Joe's favorite too!  I'd be curious to check out the JB Dunlop FF's but I'm in no way HURTING for fuzz!  Love that mids knob on the '70  cool

Re: Bixonic Expandora

I have got to try one out - man I love Mike Fuller's stuff....
