Topic: leicester,de montfort

a rather surreal experience last night!.the nottingham four set off down the A46 to leicester in pouring rain,im thinking, this is not going to be fun queueing in the rain.
anyway, the rain stopped as we pulled up to park and we made our way round to the front entrance of the demontfort, looking for the queue.no queue!,we wandered inside, and no queue for the standing area!,the lady on the door said the stalls would be open in about 15mins,so we waited. After 10mins we were let in and were faced with a totally empty stalls!.The first time ever we stood centre stage leaning against the barrier!.What a wonderful night we had,and just watched in awe as the band lifted the roof off the place.
im not sure of the set list, but highlights for me were,if heartaches were nickels and the new number slow train, which is sure to become a concert favourate.one or two songs were tinkered with, tbojh, and woke up dreaming, this was maybe because joe had broken his pick(melted more like).
Another fantastic night, this band is getting tighter and tighter and they are all having a good time.
joe complained of a few gremmlins last night, and wondered whether the hall was haunted.it wouldnt surprise me if it wasnt the late, great,Alex Harvey back to haunt the place! lol

I too was there and i thought his last song "just got paid" was, as the Americans say ,awesome.

I heard him mention the gremlins but i didn'y hear or see anything.

Apparently there were around 2000 fans there and they sure were treated to a mesmeric show.

Joe B you were......................

It was a musicial orgasm of the highest order.

Now you're getting it. That is a proper Bonamaniac's list, though you might have missed a few superlatives... lol

Re: leicester,de montfort

Talk about ending the UK tour in style – I thought Manchester was something special, but the Leicester gig took things up a level.
I too was surprised on arriving at the De Montfort Hall to find no queue, and having already had a chat with Maggie, who had seats in the circle with her brother, we were also faced with an empty hall and managed to get to the barrier at the front, just left of centre.
No support act, and bang on 8pm the opening licks of Cradle Rock rang out from the darkness before the spotlight fell on Joe as he walked out on stage.  The set list for the night was the same as the other UK dates (except Newcastle of course), but the guys really seemed up for it and there did indeed seem to be a few slight variations from what we witnessed at Manchester. The intro to Sloe Gin was haunting – the best I’ve heard I think, Slow train just gets better and better, and I love the reworked middle section of TBOJH – Carmine just rips it up on the bass there. Once again the audience was stunned to silence – even the chatty couple behind us – with the emotional “Great Flood” – I think that stands up as my favourite Joeriginal song just now. Pretty soon  the set was drawing to a close with the final bars of Mountain time and the lights went down.
Two minutes later a solo guitar cut through the cheers and the spotlight picked out Joe coming back to play a great version of Bird on a Wire. Just Got Paid got the whole house rockin’ and brought an end to a great 2 hours and ten minute set. Before we knew it we were on our out way of the auditorium into the cold night air – but not before we’d caught up with Jakey (minus the plaster cast), Martin (Mbcl) Maggie, Virgil and the Accelerators, and Joanne Shaw Taylor.
Joe and the guys all came out to chat for a few minutes and sign autographs – I was well chuffed when Joe asked me to send him a copy of the photo he’d signed – one I’d taken at the NIA gig earlier in the year.

Roll on Amsterdam!

Ian

Re: leicester,de montfort

What Joe can do just is,nt real, can anyone with a guitar be that good? YES they can and his name is Joe Bonamassa. Believe me I have seen some bands and some great performers I,m not going to bore you with who they are and where i,ve seen them. This guy is the real deal and after 3 shows Llandudno, Birmingham and Leicester I can safely say I have seen nothing better, what a talent.
Mr B you have restored my faith in Rock/Blues/any music keep it up my friend and long may it continue. A total breath of fresh air in an at times stifled musical atmosphere.
WONDERFUL

Welcome to the Forum daffyduck. Another believer joins the ranks of the slack jawed survivors of the Bonamassa assault. I believe every word you say. How long have you known of Joe's music?
