Topic: JBLP in payment scam....GUYS BEWARE- pls read

I'm just writing to warn people of this.

I was searching on Gumtree for a tkt for Folks. I just typed in Bonamassa. Anyway, lo! and behold, there was a JBLP for sale for £720!! Now call me shallow but I knew immediately I could make 2200 quid profit all day long on it. I could not believe it and I thought he'd missed a 2 off the front of the price....

So, realising this was dodgy, I contacted the seller- one Mr Daren Goger. He was a little strange and all he did was focus on the payment method thus:

email 1 -

the item is still for sale brand new in perfect working and visual condition. comes with all original accesories, proof of purchase and warranty ( 3 years manufacturer warranty). if you are interested let me know

thank you

email 2

i own a car dealership and at the moment i'm in wales with 3 of my cars for some warranty issues.i have the item here with me. i would like to close this transaction only through Moneybookers Escrow (www.moneybookers.com). This service will offer you Inspection period for buyer, safe payment and the delivery through Royal Mail Special Delivery or DHL wich is most suitable for you.
So if you agree with what i stated above and you have the funds, i am ready to explain to you all the details regarding the payment method - return period - shipping process and all about this deal

email 3
You will have 14 days to test and look at the item,if you will find something wrong or the item is not as described you will have all your money back.
I want to know if you are agree with that so i can contact Moneybookers Escrow, we will make the deal through their sistem and they will contact you with an payment request in order to complete the payment.
They will keep the money until you will receive test and inspect the item (https://www.moneybookers.com/app/help.pl?s=escrow)
If so let me know your full name and shipping address

email 4 ( i requested serial number, as, as much as anything, I wanted to be sure that it wasn't nicked off someone on here- note the chronic grammar)
no sorry  please do not feel offended but i gave one time the serial number from new camera to someone and they activated the warranty and that costed me some money in the price of the camera so sorry but no
i will contact  moneybookers as soon as pissible in order to start sorting out the deal you will have to register to moneybookers, create an account and upload funds and let me know when you have done that

thank you

So by this stage it smelled like a fish trawler. so I googled Escrow scams and found this:

http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/ar … ticle.html

http://tamebay.com/2010/08/buying-a-car … -scam.html

and therew's many more

now, being a little cunning myself, I still have this guy believing he has a deal.

here's my mail this morn

Ok no probs – very excited- can't wait. can you tell me if the internal thereamin active bumblebee circuit is working? could you source titanium strings for it - guage .020- .098 as these are my faves?

Really? That’s strange. According to Joe’s registry records, that guitar is owned by David Robinson of Newnan, Georgia, USA.

I have had a similar scam this week on Gumtree, I am selling a '57 Re Issue Strat and I got contacted from a guy who called himseld David Jones. He said in his email that he was a Ship Captain working for an oil company and that at present he was at sea and wanted to buy the guitar for his son's 18th birthday present. At first he seemed fine, asked relevant questions and haggled on price. He then said he wanted to pay via Paypal. Fine with me I said. He asked for my Paypal address then anounced he would be sending someone to my house for collection. At this stage I smelled a rat and contacted Paypal and they explained to me that if someone pays by Paypal then collects in person, the seller has no way of proving that they collected the goods at all. In orther words they said for me to be fully covered I had to post it to an adress and keep all tracking documentation.
I put this to Mr Jones and he agreed. Then he sent me an email saying he was transfering £400 more to cover cost of shipping with his own courier, (some guy from Nigeria) and I was to send a Western Union transfer to him... Scam.
I pulled the plug on the deal and contacted Paypal and Gumtree.
The fear of loosing a £900 guitar to some courier from Nigeria scared the life out of me. sad

Guitars: 95 Les Paul Standard, Relic Strat,
Amps: 1973 Marshall JMP 50 head and Vintage Modern Cab. I use no effects other than a Cry Baby on occasions.

Re: JBLP in payment scam....GUYS BEWARE- pls read

Too funny!  I had a similar experience from someone on cars.com that had boosted someone's web page on Ebay.  They were selling the car, which was way below market.  The car was supposedly nearby (1 hour), so I was gonna check it out, but the phone number given was someplace 12 hours away.  Me's smells a turd.

The response I got was that he was in Ireland and would arrange for an escrow transaction - same company and crappy grammar, I believe.  He even said that I could check out the car and return it (really, to whom, and how would it be shipped back to Ireland).

I knew it was a scam, so I told him that I didn't want him to go to the trouble and expense.  My bank was standing by to act as a free escrow service - receive the car and send him a check.  Never heard from him again.  What a douche!

Guitars: '79 LP Custom, '01 Dickey Betts Goldie - 80 of 114, '00 Chandler Lectraslide
Amps: '00 Marshall 1987x, '70 Marshall 1959 SL, 4x12 JBL D120s
'64 Vibroverb - JBL D130, '66 Super Reverb - CTS Alnicos
'77 Peavey Deuce (great for melting stubborn ear wax)

Nigeria? What is a Welshman doing in Nigeria?  big_smile Must be Daren Goger's cousin.  lol
Does David Jones talk like that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-vzv-VJ6AA Makes you want to live in Wales if all the girls look and talk like that.  cool

Re: JBLP in payment scam....GUYS BEWARE- pls read

Nigeria is such a popular place for millionaires. I should visit there and say hi to all these people. That would bypass the whole western union bit. "What if I just come personally?"  tongue
