Had to register...had to join in...Bristol was my first 'live' Joe gig ever and we were absolutely blown away.  A few probs I think with sound up in the balcony during the first few numbers, but from that point on we were in awe!  Mr B you are totally The Man.  Us getting the chance to chat to you after, by the bus, was a treat in itself.  You and that ace band of yours take care for the rest of the tour...and see you next time!

Well...Joe, Carmine, Rick and Bogie - THANK YOU all for another stunning show. What a band of supremely talented musicians...although Joe is the main man, he has chosen wonderful people for his band members.

I enjoyed it even more than Cambridge as I had second row seats ... to watch The Maestro perform parts of "Woke Up Dreaming" from about 8 feet away is just an unbelievable experience - I am very lucky!

"Slow Train" - WOW
Everything else - FABULOUS

I had been feeling grim all day as I didn't get back from Wishbone Ash in Clitheroe until 2:45a.m. and a cold was making my head feel like it was full of mashed potato - but for 2 hours, I was totally absorbed and felt wonderful!! smile  smile

Thursday night was my first Joe Bonamassa gig and it sure won't be my last. Fantastic show, great music played by great musicians. Highlights for me were spinetingling versions of Sloe Gin and Mountain Time, plus the new number, Slow Train. Also, as a big fan of Jimmy Page and Zeppelin,  loved hearing Dazed and Confused.

No you weren't annoying me - I just wanted to be cheeky and pick your brain!!

From my seat B9 your camera looked like my HS10 so I wondered what typical settings you were using as I'm trying to learn how to use mine properly!! I've just found a really long tutorial on the My FinePix forum that I will have to try and learn. I don't want to be fiddling about with settings too much, as I actually enjoy the bands I go to see and want to enjoy the music as well as taking a few photos for a souvenir!!

When I saw your camera disappear I chickened out until the encores - however, the woman in front of me was snapping away with a small compact all through the performance.

The performance was spectacular wasn't it?

iknick, Menace, Rugmojo and Mother90- A warm welcome to you all. We have an introductions thread in the forum. It would be lovely to read a little about you and how you all got into Joe's music.
Bristol WAS a stunning show. Menace, I, too was up in the balcony and thought the guys nailed right from the start, although I was lucky enough to be in the centre-perhaps that made the difference.
It was my second Joe show and most definitely won't be my last!!!

Oh dear - if that was me I am sincerely sorry.
I really did try to stay low and out of other peoples way with their big professional equipment and later whilst sat down importantly not to have a screen above chest height or shining out to other people - but I did have a front row seat and I was determined to make use of it.

Hi DevonJohn, no it wasn't you as you (at least I think it was you) were in your seat at the edge of the aisle and not in my line of sight.  And I know that you take great shots and are happy to share them, so it woulldn't have annoyed me so much even if you had been the one in the way.

Hello Linda,

Great seat obtained by luck and by being very quick indeed on the internet with pinger poised to press go at 08.89:58!

With my agingf Fuji S9500, I mostly use shutter priority with a minimum of 1/60th second ISO 400 and spot focus.

Manual focus is too slow and automatic too inaccurate for low light.

But at Bristol the light was great and I changed to 1/100th.

With my new compact a TZ10 I usually use the theatre setting but this is ISO 1600+ and because the light was good I went for ISO 400 on shutter priority for most and intelligent auto for others.

Videos were shot low res I am afraid as otherwise I can have just 8 minutes worth on an 8Gb card using HD 730p.

I have yet to find a compact that has a really wide angle lens plus a 12x zoom, stereo sound and does HD at a good compression rate.

I suppose I could bite the bullet and buy a Class 10 64 GB card but they are still so expensive and totally unneeded for photos.

Thanks for taking the time to post that, John - it is really helpful.

My HS10 is 24mm (i.e. at small venues where I go to see Wishbone Ash I can stand in front of the stage and get the whole band in!!) to 720mm (i.e. 30x) and does videos at HD in stereo.....but unfortunately it is not "compact" by any stretch of the imagination!!
I decided that I would go for the functions I wanted and sacrifice the portability, which is fine when there are no officious "audience safety" bods prowling around, but I do have to carry a larger handbag to some venues!!

I've had a nose at your work - you capture some great stuff, well done.

Speechless. 

All I can say is WOW what a show Joe and the boys gave to us last Thursday.  Just when you think you've seen the ultimate performance there's always something new, some little extra licks and riffs thrown in to tease and excite.  I'm really glad I resisted temptation to listen to Slow Train before the gig coz that little baby is now a firm favourite and bodes well for the next album. 

What an evening, spent in the company of special Bonabuddies (Maggie, Jacqueline, DevonJohn, Laurence) and nice to meet Relayer at last!

Honestly, that's probably the best £50 quid I've spent all year.

It certainly seems that most had a good time last week.  I know we certainly did.  I won't repeat the "Joe is God" stuff - suffice to say that his shows are the finest I have seen in latter years.  I can't wait until he's back in the UK again.

I took some photos at the gig (first time I've done that since Thin Lizzy in 1981!) and I took care to keep my screen off and use the viewfinder only.  My balcony shots can be seen at

I hope you like them.  For the techies, the camera is a Lumix FZ28 set on fully auto.

We had a stroke of luck after the show, my wife picked up one of Joe's guitar picks that others had missed and I blagged the set list from the guy on the mixing desk. smile
