Re: Folkestone Kent Review

Joe's first show in Kent went down really well, the crowd were really voiciferous.
band were stoked, there were some sound glitches though as it's a more wide venue as it is long, but as a change front of house was nigh on perfection, could hear rick and carmine clearly.
the highlights for me were (and think they should stay in the set for sometime)
were "Never Make Your Move Too Soon" gloriously funky Rock Groove, so great to hear it live, it is a breath of fresh air, which leads me onto "Slow Train" Wow!, this is gonna be one of those "Sloe Gin"/"Mountain Time" Epics, it's already in it's early days a setlist monster
Wow it is towering, the band have unleashed a devilish beauty there, and i just love Joe's guitar/train noises and whistle hoots, with the band rollin' along, it is genius  cool
some real neat twist on other tunes too as Phil said, "The Ballad Of John Henry" is more refined now from the deep riffing of last year, it more punchy and outhere, nice midset too
Cradle Rock is a great Rock onto stage opener, real sense grabber, won't give away too much, but it's like seeing Joe again from the early years, fresh and new, the set is definitely tighter and Rockier, and the song list flows real well
i knew they were brilliant  cool

fortunately, security didn’t seem to be too bothered about cameras, or in one Bonabud’s case, recording apparatus

OK that Bonabud was me.

It's taken me all afternoon to work out how to do this, buy some audio editing software to even out the peaks and troughs and then figure out how to get it on YouTube but I did it.

Review of the show tomorrow but a 2 word summary now  - BLOODY BRILLIANT  cool

Re: Folkestone Kent Review

What a fantastic weekend! Where to begin? Our daughter Ele came back from Sheffield uni specially for this gig, and our son Jonny came along too, as we all love Joe. It was truly a great family outing!
We arrived in time for a picnic on the beach in the beautiful sunshine. Afterwards we checked into the hotel and took a stroll along the sea front. As we approached the venue (which we had never seen before, I jokingly said to Jonny that this was where Joe was playing tonight  smile  it really did look like a coffee shop!
Unfortunately we missed Joe and Bogie in the cafe, but we made up for this later,
We were in the first 100 or so in the queue, so we got an excellent spot standing right in front of the stage.
Well, the music - what can we say except just the best  smile  It was the most superb rendition of WUD that we've ever heard; Sloe Gin had a excellent new slant on the opening solo, and all the rest was just fantastic. I'm not good with words to describe what is simply some of the best live music I have ever heard.
Afterwards we got to see Joe and the band outside for a few minutes. Had a short chat and took some photos. What a great bunch of guys!
We may be new to this site, and relatively new to Joe, but there's no stopping us now  smile  Roll on Manchester this Friday!

Beverley has posted a couple of vids for your enjoyment (and ours!).

Welcome to Joe's Forum Richard, Beverely, Jonny and Ele. You are in the right place!  smile

Most of those named in my above post were also hanging around outside after the show and were standing right next to you. Shame we didn't speak at the time. I took a few pics outside including one of a close up of Joe with Jonny's face very close. I hope all your photos came out ok.

Have a great time and please report back on Friday's show at Manchester.  wink

Thanks to David's audio I was able to make my own little video of Joe's new song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RpY_yOnF0w

Basically just a slide show of some of my Joe pics set to music, fun to put two of my favorite things - Joe and trains - together.  Can't wait to get my own original pictures of this song being played in November.  It is another instant epic in my opinion - kind of reminds me of when John Henry came out.

Nice Sandy and thanks for the great audio capture David. We've got a nice train here Sandy, the old SDA&E which still runs on restored track to the scenic Carrizo Gorge. If you ever get out here, don't miss it. There is a big museum of trains there. I love this song!
