Topic: No more 'ice pick' with Vintage 30's

I just stocked my Rivera cabinet with old Celestion MIUK Vintage 30's. They're super beat up out of an old Marshall cab. They were 16 ohm, so I rigged that as two 2x12's at 8 ohms a piece.

I installed weber beam blockers on all four speakers. I had major thudding out on low notes in only one of the speakers... I knew it wasn't blown, so I loosened all the screws on that speaker and made them just snug (as opposed to f-ing tight).

I gotta say, I didn't lilke the shrill high end of the V30, but the beam blockers did a nice job of diverting that frequency. I'm thinking it's working similar to a plexi shield. I have a plexi shield for my 1x12 combo amp, and that does a decent job too. I had a Beam blocker on my blues jr. combo, and that sold me on trying it in a 4x12 cab.
cool
I probably won't be using a plexi shield for the 4x12 cab now. Less to carry now with the beam blockers installed!

I heard nothing but really good things about those.  A lot of people who use Vox amps in Church setting rave about them because the ice pick sound that comes from facing the amp strait at you goes away.

Yes indeed. Just don't tighten them, the gasket will flatten out and the speaker will fart-out against the bracket. Just snug it. I'm decently impressed. It's not OVERWHELMING, but I think it was worth the money and is noticeably effective.
