Topic: Sovtek or Jubilee

Hey guys, I'll make this brief. I currently have a Sovtek MIG60 and I'm thinking about ordering a Ceriatone 100w Jubilee. My question is: will there be a noticeable difference? I really like my Sovtek, but I love the way Jubilees sound, too. The only reason I thought of this is because people have been saying that Jubs sound like jcm800s....and an MIG60 is essentially an 800. Any input will be appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Sovtek or Jubilee

I've never heard a Sovtek (although I'm aware of them). I got my Ceriatone (the 50 W) 2550 version two weeks ago. It took about a week to burn in (no, it's not a myth) to lose some stiffness/harshness and now it's the best sounding amp I have. Makes all my OD pedals superfluous (except a TS for some solo boost). A touch of Reverb and Delay in the loop (best loop ever with no tone or volume loss) and that's it. Goes from semi-cleanish to fully saturated OD with the turn of the guitar's volume knob. Did I say it's the best amp I have?

Perhaps my comment above does not really answer your question. Sorry, I'm still in tone nirvana...
As you may be aware there are several JCM800s which differ quite a bit. Only the later version (2205 and 2210) have diode clipping like the later Jubilee. If the MIG60 is based on the earlier JCM800 circuit it would sound quite different to a Jubilee.

Re: Sovtek or Jubilee

I have a Jub and my brother in law has a later model JCM 800 and I don't think the tone is that close, yes it might be similar but the Jub is darker and has a beefier tone to it. Not that the JCM 800 doesn't sound great but I don't think they are quite the same. Listen to some clips on You Tube and you can hear the difference.

Re: Sovtek or Jubilee

Thanks so much. Once you used the term "beefier", that was exactly what I was looking for. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying essentially the same amp. Seems that I'll be $1k in the hole soon tongue

Re: Sovtek or Jubilee

I've played teh Sovtek MIG50 and really liked it. I'm sure a jub would have a different flavor... what I don't know.

Re: Sovtek or Jubilee

Hey chances are both amps will sound good paired ??

always liked Joes  Jubilee paired with Budda Superdrive

bottom line Silver Jubilee is a great amp to pair with as it

has the bottom end and saturation .       yikes
