Topic: RIP Greg Giraldo

One of my favorite comedians has passed away. Greg Giraldo was one of the funniest guys I've ever heard. Just side-splitting stuff. And he was always the best part of Comedy Central's roasts.

Why is it that there is always someone willing to come in and crap on a thread? Leave the speculation to the tabloids dawg. They're better at it. Right now it's being called an accidental overdose due to prescription meds. Let's just leave it at that.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

You'll find in most of these celebrity instances that their management spins a story and feeds it to the media......that's the real crap. Who knows what really happened, but accidental seems a little far fetched. No doubt the tabloid rags will have a field day with it with no respect for the poor guy. BTW, I don't take orders from any 20 somethings......is that clear?

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

And do I care? No, but you seem to wanna go on and make fun of someone who passed on by calling them a dope. And I don't appreciate that.

You may not take an order from a 20 something, but you sure did not act your age in this case. Age has nothing to do with a little thing called class. I'm sure you were right there when Heath Ledger died saying the same thing.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

I'm not making fun of anybody, but this guy had a Harvard law degree, but couldn't follow a prescription label. Do the math.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

settle folks, we are family after all. I think I know what happened, and will speculate for the tabloids before they put out complete trash. He had a big event coming up the next day, he was to do a show for some kind of alcohol-drug abuse awareness rally in NYC. He got freaked out because he was using, and maybe was afraid someone would notice. I've been there, hooked on narcotic pain pills. The more I had to confront in the course of real life, major events coming up that required attention, the more pills I took. And it took more, and more and more to get the same buzz. He had a party going on, I think he lost count of how many he had taken. It happens, no I didn't get a tshirt. He was a super funny somofabeech.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

Like I said, it could be deeper than reported and who knows if the truth will come out or not. Just a tragedy.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

Accidents happen ohiodawg. There are people that know how to drive, but did they intentionally drive headfirst into a telephone pole? And all they're saying is that it's an accidental overdose of PRESCRIPTION drugs. Could he have been abusing those? Absolutely, actually I wouldn't put it past him, as he had a history with alcoholism and had actually quit drinking. But thus far, no one is saying it was narcotics, not police, not anybody. So he's no more a dope than Heath Ledger, whom everyone was sure was abusing drugs, but sadly had just been suffering from insomnia and took one too many sleeping pills in an effort to get some rest.

But this is all irrelevant. We have lost one of the comedic greats of this generation. The dude was a genius, and had a way of being crude without relying on it or using it as a gimmick. And was brutally honest to a fault, which made him so awesome on those Roasts.

Booze and pills, the deadly duo. I think Tres has it right, a tragic accident.  RIP.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

Unless there are new details, I haven't heard anything about booze yet. Last I had heard he had quit.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

He had been off the booze for about 5 years, just transferred the addiction. They can't smell those pills on your breath now can they. I speculated on something like oxycodone, but it could have been something else or a combo. My favorite memory will be of him destroying Lisa Lampinelli and Courtney Love on those roasts.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

I wasn't saying that there wasn't an addiction, I'm just pointing out that they haven't said alcohol was present. Very well may have been an addiction. Also could have been desperate for sleep like a Hendrix or Ledger and took one too many sleeping pills. I guess we'll find out.

Bless you on your entire contribution on this Deezer.  You have presented your side well.  In good Faith, and of good Heart, , and a Spirit of Kindness and Golden Ruling.  I appreciate that, and you, and your views greatly.

But Hendrix certainly, (Ledger I don't know him from Adam until he was dead so I'll leave him out although clues don't exclude him completely) had large addictions issues.  Luckily for me until he died, one of them was music.  Even if someone buys into the foul play bit, it will never become fully believed because of lifestyle.  This is the price and the burden of any addiction.  The one thing that always rings loudest, ESPECIALLY among addicts who suffer recovery, is DENIAL.  No favors are granted to the living, recovering, never forgotten past sufferers of addiction(s) when ANYONE tries to paint a rosy picture of the problems.  The truth is not known, except as it WAS known in someone's past.  Relapse is ALWAYS pounding on the FRONT doorstep, back door, shuffling around the attic, circling around for the kill in the cool waters of the swimming pool, sent a spam Email, calling on the phone, graffiti writing on your Facebook wall, trying to steal a significant other or significance period, developing new, worse methods of identity theft....the list goes on & on...until one is dead.  That is the point of true, blissful resting in peace .  May this latest tragic one (whom I also do not know but sense) do so now.

Re: RIP Greg Giraldo

Forgive me Rocket, I'm not disagreeing with you, just clarifying, from what I've read (Roomful of Mirrors is an excellent read, and from what I've heard a well-researched book), I understood that Hendrix was not addicted to sleeping pills. That when he died, he had taken some particularly powerful sleeping pills, and the sheer volume of those killed him because he probably wouldn't have been aware of how potent they were. This is what I was referring to when I made that statement. Now in Hendrix's case, other drugs, that's a definite as far as addiction, not even counting lsd.

I guess what I'm saying is, Greg very well could have traded in one vice (alcohol) for another (prescription meds), and truthfully, most probably did. I don't know, more light will be shed hopefully in the coming weeks. But police from what I've read have ruled out a suicide and foul play as well. So I tend to believe that. What I think is that it was genuinely an accidental overdose, due to either addiction or a problem he was having and just happened to mix a bad concoction. I don't like speculating, especially on a situation that I know very little about, so that's as far as I'm willing to go with it.

For the record, Ledger suffered badly from insomnia, this was what they say led to his overdose. Some people tried to say it was because his recent role of the Joker had disturbed him, but this is complete bs. I read a lot about it because I'm a Batman nerd so when Ledger died it was a big deal to me.
