Topic: Doobie Brothers

Yep, the Doobie Brothers.  The band has recorded a new album with old producer Ted Templeton and the result will surprise many (me included).  This has indeed been a red letter day for new releases.  Listening to the song "Nobody" with its slide acoustic guitar intro makes me feel as if I'm seventeen again and crawling outta the wayback machine.  Michael McDonald joins in on the pleasant "Don't Say Goodbye" as another highlight.

Re: Doobie Brothers

I thought those guys had faded away. I'll have to check it out. A definate blast from the past.

Re: Doobie Brothers

Rick, Rick, Rick you gotta get out a little more often. The Doobs rock it around the country every year still. This is about the first one in 10 that I haven't caught their show, probably because Konocti Harbor went belly up last Nov. DOH!!! senior moment, I saw them in Jan. @ the Norton Buffalo Tribute in Oakland, best act of the night. I heard the new version of Nobody on the radio today, still partial to the original. These guys can do no wrong in my book, I've been diggin' 'em since '71, a Bay Area staple.

Re: Doobie Brothers

Thanks for that vid Curby. a few bittersweet shots of Keith Knudsen in there. I've seen Tiran Porter at every show Joe's done in the past 3-4 years between Monterey & San Francisco. He's in a band called the White Album Ensemble these days, they do Beatle albums front to back usually accompanied by a symphony orchestra. All their gigs are very local to the Monterey Bay Area.

Re: Doobie Brothers

Saw them last year opening for the Allman Brothers Band in Saratoga Springs, New York.  To say the crowd was receptive and the band were good is an utterstatement [sic].   Something holistic about thousands making a joyful noise and raising voices nearly as one singing those great songs...

Uffda. Thank goodness he only appears on one track.  roll

I'm really looking forward to hearing this now that I know Ted Templeton produced it.

Re: Doobie Brothers

Uffda must be really bad, but I assume he can still sing. Thanks Scott for the info and link. I saw them on the first original FAREWELL roll  tour back in the 80's in Houston. They were excellent, would not mind seeing them again. Your never too old these days, hell REO Speedwagon is playing Turner stadium this weekend.

Re: Doobie Brothers

Thanks Kiddo! That was 9/27/07 @ Moe's Alley in Santa Cruz, just 5 days before I went under the knife. First of many encounters with Tiran @ a JB gig, really nice guy and loves Joe's music. A rockin' good time that night with Shreddy, Rpic, Gr8tful Fred, & an aggressive autograph seeker who got pissed off when Joe's signature encroached on the guys hair in the photo he wanted signed. Takes all kinds.

They've come full circle in those 30 years so the bulk of their set will most likely contain a lot of the rockin' tunes you might have heard back then, with a little of the new too. Now I got the itch to go see them too.

Gee J Dawg, here I am chastised for being out of it, so I go and check to see if they come near. They and I will be even more geezerfied before the chance may happen. I'm going to dig in that box of 8 tracks to see if I still have some tunes.  roll

Re: Doobie Brothers

Great to see the 'Nobody' Vid. Yeah, nuthin's changed, well much.

Pat has grown his hair long again, while John has cut his back! Tommy, well the pipes are just unmistakeable aren't they? Just one of those signature voices. Whenever I hear him it takes me back to a seedy sitting room in North London, a joint in my hand and the start of Natural Thing - then his voice, my first ever intro to the band. Halcyon days!

OK, the new album is now on my list. The list that will never end, as long as I can still 'Cheat the Hangman' big_smile

Sorry Rick, I got the itch to go see them too, but their next gig here @ their manager's winery(BR Cohn) in Sonoma is long sold out @ $120.00 per tick, it's an annual charity event that I've been to before. Looks like it'll be awhile till they're here again as they embark on a lengthy Euro tour after the Sonoma gig. The good Lord willin' & the creeks don't rise they will return.
