So glad it moved back up there where it belongs. 5 inches in 4 days here was more than enough. Good thing you are thinking green, that's what that rain is for. smile

Re: Howl at the Moon!

I stood looking at that amazingly large and bright moon on an icy night on an industrial estate in Alkmaar (long story, don't ask) and naturally couldn't help but think of the Witch and the howl opportunity before me - there was no one within earshot - so I gave it a great big Ahhwooooooo, and then like always, had to think of Warren Zevon's wonderful song. cool

Now that I would have loved to see George!  lol

We had another dazzling moon last night (yeah I know it's the same one but you know what I mean tongue) and we had a light covering of snow during the evening. Outside was almost like daylight!

Attention Fellow Lunatics! Tonight is another special one. Full Harvest Moon on the first day of Autumn. I was blessed with some much needed rain tonight and with a clearing sky in time for a nice Moon view. Check out this pic from CNN  wink

AH-ooooooh, Werewolves of London!!!! Had to throw that one in Sis. That moon is beaming brightly over the marina in my front yard while Karen's newborn grandaughter Danielle is sleeping right through it all.

AAAHHHHHHWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thanks for the heads up Cathy, sometimes you miss the good stuff. We stepped out and there, in a cloudless sky, escorted to the lower right by Venus, was that big fat full moon! cool

Re: Howl at the Moon!

In addition to the Full Harvest Moon falling on the Autumnal Equinox, there's a couple other cool things going on right now too.  Two nights ago Jupiter was the closest it's been to Earth since 1951, and it won't be this close again until 2022.  Right now it's the brightest object in the sky other than the Moon (and probably what Rick was referring to as Venus... I had assumed the same thing until recently).  You can see it rising in the East at sunset and setting in the West at sunrise.  Using just binoculars, you can see its 4 biggest moons.  What's more, Jupiter is currently aligned with Uranus, which you can also see with just binoculars as a faint bluish orb nearby Jupiter.  Actually, the Sun, Earth, Jupiter and Uranus are all in alignment right now.  Here's an article from the other day:

Re: Howl at the Moon!

I couldn't copy the link from my phone to here, but search you tube for Sonny Landreths "Howling Moon". Dr. John and Jimmy Buffett join Sonny for my all time favorite "moon tune"! Guaranteed to make you smile.
Edit: Evidently this clip has been pulled from youtube...probably explains why I had problems in the first place.

Re: Howl at the Moon!

I went out and looked but the overcast was only allowing an occasional misty peek. That made for some great lighting effects with a big halo around it at times but not enough light for a photo.
