I just used a piano hinge on mine - and some small bolts with nut 'caps' (so the threads are covered at the ends). Hint - put some masking tape along the edge before you drill the holes for the bolts to keeep the hole from cracking and splitting. I only put 3 bolts/nuts on mine and it works sweet.

They are plastic but they are not like the ones in Ken's link. Those are glue on hinges. Clearsonic hinges are friction hinges. You hammer them on with a mallet. They can be replaced. You can order the hinges from clearsonic by asking for the old style replacement hinge. The hinges come with instructions even.

LOL now duct tape is ghetto. The clear mailing tape while also heavy duty is pretty inconspicuous. wink

I'd like to put some graphics on it. Colored or frosted glass computer cut vinyl.... band logo maybe.

Kinda looks like mine - the hinge, that is.  Love the graphic!!  The only difference is that I used every other hole on the hinge on each side and alternated on each panel so that it folds a little flatter.  I also rounded the corners of the panels a little on mine.  That stuff is sharp as hell.

Yeah the graphic makes look more official!  You're right, they don't fold too well.  Corners are sharp , yes!  I think I might make another with the rubber living hinge like clearsonic uses in the 'VV' pattern to encompass 2 2x12 CABS. -Seth

I rounded the sharp edges with a sanding block and sandpaper - another home depot purchase.  It actually came out looking pretty factory.  Try taking every other screw out of the hinge in an alternating pattern like below.  It should fold up nicely then.

OK, I'll give that a shot.  I'm going to the hardware store tomorrow for some things, I was thinking of building another one with the neato rubber hinge but I don't think they carry that?.  Anyway, I'll do they every other method on the one I have.  And yes the corners will def need some attention before I slice some skin open packing or unpacking for next gig. -Seth

Re: hinges on clearsonic plexi shield! send some pis of your plexishield!!

Here is another one.  4 sheets of 1/4" plexi from Home Depot w/ military dscount $78, plastic hinge $20.  I sawed the corners off, and slid each panel into the hinge.  My advice: just buy one from clearsonic or somewhere.. The living hinges are a PAIN to install! -Seth

Re: hinges on clearsonic plexi shield! send some pis of your plexishield!!

I'm with you on buyin' it, if you don't need a custom size.  I made mine 40" tall to work with an 1960A or a vintage tall cab.  DIY doesn't save anything and they are a pain to build.  Next time I'll just go with Clearsonic.
