Oh yeah...that too.  Even though I drank an entire bottle of Jack Black for one of my birthdays...I was never a real fan.  My poison of choice for many a long year was Wild Turkey 101...Austin Nichols?  Maker's Mark?  Superb!

Once at an after school party in the West Philly ghetto (Christmas time) we got a taste of corn likker.  I rode my motorcycle home in the snow through the 'hood in my shirtsleeves, talking smack to anyone who would look at me...especially the young ladies.

I slept alone that night, fully dressed & woke up terrified...boots still on.

lol No problem in the 'hood Doc, and no wonder the way you woke up alone. Everyone who saw you was terrified too! I mean, who's goin' to mess with a crazed biker in shirtsleeves in the snow?

Speakin' of Skynyrd & Wild Turkey, Austin Nichols was the name of Johnny Van Zants band back when Ronnie was still live & kickin'. Just a lil' Southern Rock/poison whiskey trivia.

Vicks 44D magnum cough syrup there Brack, OMG! lol I have tried it but is tough to get any quantity down the pipe. The AN Wild Turkey 101 was one of my dad's favorites.
I tried a couple of these the other night, double bock and very tasty. I remember the Shiner brewery in Texas had a seasonal bock, we just called it "bottom of the barrel", but not bad. Anybody else got any favorite beers or ales, since it looks like most of us have given up the high proof liquids?

Ah Tres, but that's because you're drinking it all wrong. wink You see, Jägermeister is strictly for medicinal purposes only! lol
Quick story.....years ago I was at my in-law's home and really feeling lousy. Terrible cold with lots of coughing and a very bad sore throat. So my brother-in-lay finds a chilled bottle of Jägermeister in my father-in-law's refrigerator. Well, we break it out and start sipping away. Funny, the more I drank, the better I felt. wink  The next morning I swear, I woke up with no cold, no sore throat and feeling tip-top! Better than a Doctor in a Bottle!! smile

Re: Any Bourbon Drinkers?

I'll agree about Jaegermeister being medicinal. You should try some of the digestifs popular in Germany.  yikes Think distilled spruce boughs. (and just as green!)
On the subject of beers, since we have run spirits into the ground, I have developed a taste for Czech brews after being educated by my German family. The big ones, Budwar, and Pilsner Urquell are superb examples. P. Urquell on draft is my favorite. The bottled imports we get over here are close, but not the same.  I'll take it from the experts, my German men over there swear the Czech beers are the best.
Micro brews have a hotbed of local talent here in San Diego and they win prizes all the time in international competitions. Lots of good ones and constantly releasing new products.

Re: Any Bourbon Drinkers?

I agree Rick that P Urquell is one of the very best on this planet, and like you said we aren't even getting the real thing. Dad and I drank more than a few of these through the years, his other favorite was Labatts out of Canada. I don't know about Jager being medicinal, sounds like one of those concoctions from the late 1800's. It should taste good, right? Well it doesn't, and if memory serves me it is way sweet. Maybe if you took a shot and followed with a Guinness Stout chaser.  lol

Re: Any Bourbon Drinkers?

LaBatt Blue is one of my favorite beers; cool, crisp and clean taste. I usually can find regular Blue, but have a very hard time finding the light version. Like Heineken light and it's full body beer, the light has the exact same taste as the full bodied LaBatt Blue. Try it if you can find it. wink

Re: Any Bourbon Drinkers?

That reminds me of the spoon of honey I got after mom made me take my dose of Cod Liver Oil as a kid. Still didn't take that nasty taste away!
On a side note, the German men are introducing me to a local tradition. During the spring holiday, they rent a small bus with driver and make a pilgrimage to Pilsen. They visit all the breweries in the region over 5 days. Man Tour! Women left behind and off on a 5 day drunk! tongue (they call it doing the "Stations of the Cross" since it occurs during Ascension) lol I'm all over that next year while my liver still allows.

Re: Any Bourbon Drinkers?

In my younger days, Jack and I were good friends.  Even had a JD toast when I married my first husband.  Everyone downed a shot to the union.  Well the union did not last and don't have a taste for it anymore.
