Jakey,
I'm glad to hear your health and situation have improved.
I do want to add something that you can consider, and I hope you will recognize the voice of experience for what it is. 'nuf said.
Pursue all options, even if you don't do anything more. By that I mean consult with any group who deals with domestic violence for their opinions and help. File a report with the authorities today. Do something to document the event aside from the medical reports. Seriously.
Besides the obvious -- no one has a right to do this to you -- you need to protect your future interests. What I mean by that is if you move out and do nothing further, you have no evidence of his behavior should he ever attempt to harm you again. All too often this is not a one-time behavior, and probably -- I don't know this but I fear this -- this wasn't the first time it happened, but rather the straw that broke the camel's back, right?
I've had to deal with someone who wouldn't stop, wouldn't let go, wouldn't leave me alone (stalking, harassment, threats basically), but what I didn't was the severity of his mental health issues. When he snapped on me, it was so hard to get anyone to listen or help because I hadn't filed appropriate complaints from previous incidences. Unfortunately, he flipped his freakin' lid and went postal on someone else and ended up in jail and after being released he beat a woman so badly she had to be hospitalized. After that people started listening and district attorneys were suddenly interested in what I had to say -- but no one should EVER have to go through the stress of wanting authorities to help and having their hands tied. So, Jakey... don't tie their hands.
Seriously, please go consult someone who deals with this stuff and knows what you might need to protect yourself down the road and then, if nothing ever comes from it, so be it. After the dust settles, throw away any reports or paperwork you no longer need, but have them, Jakey... just in case you need them. 'K?
Stay well, stay strong, stay healthy, and keep that spunky spirit going!
Chris
