Topic: ever been a victim of domestic violence?

I have been and I am. My partner kicked me yet again over the weekend and I have a broken arm in 3 places, I have a steel plate the size of california in my forearm and I wont pick up a guitar for 8 weeks.

Jakey, i don't know where to start with a reply to this most disturbing post, I think some professional help from someone for yourself and your partner needs to be sought as soon as possible, violence should not be tolorated or accepted by anyone regardless of the circumstances that bought it about, please, please talk to someone suitably qualified to advise on a way forward!

I'm assuming this has something to do with playing guitar... but it sounds like something dirty, LOL... sorry... but thanks for the giggle!  lol

And jakey, on a serious note, please take care of yourself (and I don't just mean healing your arm).  I hope both of you get the help you obviously need.

Re: ever been a victim of domestic violence?

Sorry and concerned as well.
I believe statistics will show that this behavior rarely stops, but will happen again.

Vik - Nothing to do with guitars! Paradiddle is a drum rudiment, one of the first lessons you learn.

Sorry to move away from the topic in hand!   hmm

Re: ever been a victim of domestic violence?

A very big step to take is to admit it, to yourself and to others. This step you appear to have taken, at least with us on here.

It doesn't matter what the repercussions are, be they marital, kids, financial, if you on the receiving end of violence things won't fundamentally change until you change them.

Forget the apologies (if there have been any), the begging for forgiveness and all that. The offending party must be made to see and realise the consequences and effect of their actions. I don't just mean seeing you in plaster and slowly healing. I mean 3rd party intervention. If you can't face the involving the law, even at this advanced point, then you should immediately seek the assistance of professionals who deal with this kind of thing.

Others have suggested organisations to contact. Do it. It isn't just about you, although you appear to be on the receiving end. It is about both parties getting the help they clearly need.

If it means the end of something, then thats what it has to be. Something is very wrong and plates and plaster can't fix that. We don't know all the facts and we don't need to. But you need to take the further steps to ensure your own safety first.

No One deserves this kind of treatment...ever.

Leave...Leave Today

File a police report for assault, have this person arrested, charged and prosecuted.

Re: ever been a victim of domestic violence?

Sorry to hear you're going through this.  Some good advise has been given.  Hope you follow it.

True, but it sounded like you might need help doing that.
So, are you actually gonna DO it (walk)?

Re: ever been a victim of domestic violence?

No never.

Re: ever been a victim of domestic violence?

I haven't, but my mother was when I was a kid about 9 or 10.  It was a bad marriage and I spent alot of time with my grandparents, but knew things were not right.  My mom would occasionally have a black eye and tried to overdose on pills twice.  I still have memories of staying up all night with her to make sure she did not choke on her own vomit.  She finally summoned up the courage to leave.  On the pretence of a vacation to see my uncle she put 3000 miles between them and asked for a divorce.  He ended up trashing all the belongings we left behind, started out east for us but was arrested and thrown in prison.  I had heard he was killed while in there.

Please take care to find the strength to fix the situation in your life.  Everyone deserves to live a happy full life without the fear of abuse hanging over them.
