Re: baffle question

Disclaimer...I'm obviously not Joe! The plexi baffles don't muffle the sound, they just keep the highs from beaming straight out from the cabinet. They disperse more (like low frequencies do naturally). I've used them many times in live, unmic'ed situations. They allow me to get my power tubes cooking a bit more without killing everybody on stage or at the front of the stage.

I am also NOT Joe B.!  However I have made and used a plexiglass baffle.  I noticed more of the mids when I stood 10ft or so away from the cab.  I liked the sound better WITH the baffle.  Directly infront of the cab I didn't hear much difference tonaly.

WHARRIS is correct saying that a baffle controls those hideous high freqs.  It cuts them out but DOESN'T muffle your sound.  The baffle seems to direct sound upward also.  Just remember that the sound behind the shield (The Pure Sound) will differ from what you may perceive a few feet infront so you may also want to direct your mics toward the sides of your cabinet.  I prefer mine toward the corner between the grill cloth and cabinet side wall.

Re: baffle question

Would turning yuor amp towards the wall in a corner for example have the same affect?

Re: baffle question

That is a little trick that many use.

Disclaimer: I am not Joe  cool

i bought some plexi from Lowes and didn't like carting it around. It does block the "shrill" from your front row people though.

I stopped using that and started using Weber beam Blockers. I can even turn up a little more now with these.
