Topic: Any recording engineers in the audience?
I have a question about production and engineering.
On some records I think I hear a difference in recording/production techniques from song to song. Even on Black Rock I perceive a different sound or feel on some songs. For example, the cut with BB King (for my personal taste) has a better sound than some of the others. I can't 100% explain it, but it seems clearer and cleaner - more open.
But that's not the recording I have questions about. It is Heart's Dog and Butterfly album, in particular the cuts Straight On For You and Hijinx.
Those 2 cuts may be my all-time favorite recordings when it comes to studio production sound, and they seem to have been produced or mixed or engineered differently than any of the other songs on the record. The album was released in 1978. Hard to believe it's been 32 years ago.
Does anyone know what techniques were used on those songs? Does anyone else share my affinity for the sound of those cuts off that record?
