Topic: Ebay, No way

I won a Fender amp on Ebay.  Paid $120 extra for shipping which is absolutely fine.  Amp shows up in a box with newspaper crumpled up as the packaging and of course the amp is destroyed.  Cabinet cracked, front face bent.  This is where it gets bad...

I contact seller and let them know amp was damaged, they were very nice about it and said they would arrange UPS to pick up the amp at my house and arrange for a refund.  The next day UPS picks up the amp.  An hour or so later the seller confirms the amp was picked up THEN asks for a week to get funds together for my refund.  I oblige as it's no big deal to wait a week.  A week later they contact me and say UPS is going to cover the damage and they would like ANOTHER week.  I say I'd rather not wait and I would prefer to wrap this whole thing up.

So now they have the amp back (broken), they have my money, and they are probably about to get a check from UPS.  I filed a claim through Ebay and Paypal and I'm confident I'll get my money back, but in the mean time I'm financing this guys Ebay store.  Nice.

Rant over.....

Re: Ebay, No way

I wonder how many times they have run this scam? Or I am just getting a jaundiced view of the world??

Re: Ebay, No way

So live and learn.  Maybe this can be helpful to some of you that use Ebay.  I won a Fender Twin on August 5th.  I paid promptly ($500) and also paid $120 for shipping and handling.

So this is how these people are making money.  My amp arrives poorly packaged and damaged.  It may have been shipped damaged and probably was.  When I got the amp I called the seller and they are very nice and say UPS will be there tomorrow to pick it up.  Now they have an insurance claim for $500 which they will get, they have my $650 which they are only going to refund $500.  And they have the amp back to do this all over again to the next person.  I also found out that they have a third party insurer too so that may pay out as well.

I think from now on I'm going to ask for a photo with some sort of time stamp (newspaper) of any item I buy.  What a scam....

Be careful out there.

Re: Ebay, No way

That really sucks. I've had issues with sellers before. Usually a paypal claim will help and you should be able to get your money back. Did they have good feedback too?

Re: Ebay, No way

Yeah they have great feedback.  I did elevate the claim and I'll get my $500 back.  But they made out like bandits with the handling charge and insurance(s).
