A big high 5 to the first post that can tell me what band Atlanta Rythym Section evolved from, and Bogie you should know this. Speaking of female southern rockers, anybody ever heard Ruby Starr? And how about Dale Krantz, now Dale Rossington on the Rossington Collins Bands first LP Anytime Anywhere Anyplace.

  How about Mississippi' 3 Doors Down???????? They got to do a number of dates with their heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd last summer. They usually do a Skynyrd cover in their live sets.

See much as I love Whippin Post to me it just ain't southern rock... Henry Paul's awesome group post Outlaws was superb, Grey Ghost is a killer SR tune.

Also on the rockier side of southern we have Point Blank whose first two slabs of SR were just KILLER... they also did an awesome live version of Highway Star.....

You lucky girl!!! The Frynds Tour isn't playin' out west. I love how you're never demanding too. LOL. Skynyrd is playin' the west coast, but not with Hank Jr. However if Rickey Medlocke's step-brother Austin Hanks opens for them as he has the last two summers on the west coast the J Dawg is backstage again!!!! It's amazing what a bunch of shots of Patron can do for ya.

skynyrds comin home is one of my all time favorite songs.

But IMO, nobody compares with The Allman Bros. So many great songs, I don't think I could pick just one...Whipping Post is a good choice, but also In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Statesboro Blues, their version of Stormy Monday, One Way Out, Stand Back, Southbound, etc., etc.

Hey Bill, I'm with you on your opinion as to which AB tune is best. I think they're all great too. One of their less popular albums that I've got on CD that I pull out occasionally is Enlightened Rogues. Can't Take It With You and Jelly Jelly are a couple of faves. Live at Fillmore East can't be beat, but what do you expect, it was produced by Tom Dowd, he is sorely missed. If you've never seen The Language of Music get your hands on a copy and watch it. Joe's in it at the beginning in the studio with Tom.

Hi Bill-I have to agree with your comments here.  The Allmans have been on rotation alot the last couple of weeks with the arrival of spring. Their music always seem to go with the oudoors and friends gathering for a barbecue. I love the way Gregg sings Midnight Rider and I'm No Angel.  I'm not sure if you realized that Duane Allman would have been 60 in November on our birthday. I was reading a Dickey Bettes interview and saw that. So, Joe Walsh and Duane Allman were born on the same day. Have you read Skydog...bought it but haven't read it yet.  And has anyone seen Dickey Betts recently?

No Dickey Betts recently, but I saw Gregg Allman a fwe months ago at HOB's Chicago. Great show.

I'm going to see Dickie Betts this w/e at Tampa. Last time I saw him (5yrs ago?) I thought he looked more like Willie Nelson than I remembered. He could still play well though. I'll report back....Cathy

If you want to know how Dickey is doing nowadays look out for the DVD Dickey Betts & Great Southern - Back where it all beginns. Live from the rock and roll hall of fame.
Hope he is coming to Europe one day.
