Busted, Broken And Blue by 24 Pesos.

Re: 24 Pesos

Rick Wakeman is a fan and played a track off their LP on Saturday on Planet Rock. Can't remember the name of the song, but I think he said it was the third track. Whatever it was it was pretty good and I loved the harp playing, which I have a soft spot for.

Any news on their appearance at CSB, Roger?

Re: 24 Pesos

CSB is still going ahead as planned , as for the ticket details, I'm meeting them on sunday @ Ronnie Scotts for a chat.

Time to give the 24 Pesos a bump. I've been busy recently but was sent this CD for review for Blues Matters so I took it on holiday with me. I could not stop playing it, so I'll fully endorse Roger's review. It's a great album, really diverse yet with a distinct sound - sounds contradictory but it really is true! smile

Gave it a listen Roger.... Not bad! Would have liked to have read some history on the band.
More than a hint of, The Black Crowes on some tracks i thought.... not a bad thing!  smile

Re: 24 Pesos

From the website I read the band were previously session musicians, although they did record an album with Geno Washington and released their debut last year. The thing that really strikes home with 24 Pesos is that there are so few other acts in the UK playing a similar style.
I've picked off a few of their youtube links for anyone interested:

Re: 24 Pesos

Been away for a week and this was one of the CD's waiting for me when I got back.
Have to say I'm disappointed - not with the CD, but that I didn't get to see these guys at the Maryport Festival. They had a couple of gigs there on the blues trail (in local bars) but didn't make the main stage line-up. On the strength of this CD they probably should. It's not all blues by any means - there's other genres too, including a great rockabilly (with added swing) title track. There's also just about every Blues cliche under the sun in the lyrics, but despite that it's a very good debut album - worth a shot.

Re: 24 Pesos

I really love this cd and I want to thank Roger for giving me the heads up. It's a joyous occasion when you want to replay a cd immediately after the first listen which is what I did with this one.
I don't believe it is a debut album Ian. There is an 2009 album called The Boogie Worm which I haven't heard. Sorry you missed them at Maryport.

By the way I am the woman that Roger knows who woke up with the track 'In The Summertime' in her head....in his review of course  tongue ....it's a very infectious groove.

Re: 24 Pesos

I'm aiming to see these guys at CSB on Saturday (unless it rains so much at Reading Festival that my son's tent gets washed away and I have to pick him up  hmm  ).

Anyone else?

Re: 24 Pesos

damnit, great videos but wish I hadn't seen them as I was at CSB @ 5pm for dinner and as I wrote in another post had to cut the evening shorter than I would have liked due to family disagreements and general bickering. Wanted to stay myself but now I regret not forcing the issue even more  mad grrrrrr families

Re: 24 Pesos

For anyone interested, they're playing in south London on 6th November at Zoom on the Moon, Herne Hill www.feenstra.co.uk

Re: 24 Pesos

Nice videos Roger - thanks for putting them up. What a good show they put on. They sure play well and know how to please an audience don't they?

It's not many times you turn up at a venue and the first people you meet are the band but that's what happened last Saturday. I strolled into Charlotte St Blues planning to meet Roger and he sees me first, calls me over and introduces me to the band. What a friendly bunch of guys.

Here's my photos of the evening (there's a couple of Roger with Julian Burdock, the guitarist/vocalist) :

I bought their CD at the show and got it signed by the band. If you can't make one of their shows (do try and see them if you can - you won't be disappointed) then you can download Busted, Broken & Blue from CDBaby.
