Is it true, as I read in today's paper, that those spectators were standing so close to the cars that they could have actually reached out and touched them?

Sorry, I just read the article attached. If true, calling the dead "victims" is inaccurate at best.

If you are dumb enough, yes you can. I don’t think it will be that way anymore with exception of the Baja Races in Mexico.

As you can see in the video, it was getting dark and the driver was in the dust of the vehicle in front of him, he hit a nasty rut and got out of control. This is very sad, for everyone involved.

Sad. Racing is a dangerous sport. If they were that close, trusting the drivers to make the jump in control was asking for disaster. The Baja race has had similar fatalities in the past. I shudder when I watch WRC races with the crowd packed in along the course.

Indy & NASCAR fans paid the price at one time too. Racing is a sport where every competitor knows in the back of their mind that each race could be their last. There's easier ways to make a livin', unless you got that "Need for speed".
