Topic: Joe's rig on BCC

From a recent Gibson interview.

What’s your guitar/rig set-up on that one? You’ve got such a great heavy sound.

1968 plexi panel Super Bass Marshall and my trusty Jubilee Marshall. A tube screamer and EV-12L speakers in vintage Marshall cabinets. I don't like the original speakers. Not clear enough. But it’s me and I'm weird like that.

Re: Joe's rig on BCC

That '68 on ten...that's how you do it.

That OLS tone got me immediately than ANY other tone of Joe's...maybe that's just me (and I know they all feel different to play), but I'd say leave the pricey stuff alone and buy up the super bass stock!  cool

About last March, Joe tweeted that he had found a Plexi Super Bass in L.A. and it was the amp he had been looking for. Now we know what he had in mind. RAWK!

Here I see Candy Apple Blue JBLP, #52, Steve Morse MM( for drop D tuning) and a tele?

As for pedals it's definitely His "fly gig" pedalboard

Re: Joe's rig on BCC

Due to the fact that the Lehle was missing on the pedal board my guess is he was only using 1 or 2 amps tops.  Probably the afformentioned '68 Plexi/and or the Jubilee.  I don't really think his softer, more "Dumble" sound, has a big place in BCC.  BCC is a more straightforward rock band and the Marshalls lend themselves better to that than his solo stuff IMO

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: Joe's rig on BCC

Here's what Joe had posted about his 68 Plexi SB back in December:

"So I am recording a " discrete project" in early January.  (you will know eventually but now you cant.. sorry).  I needed to find a really killer Marshall.  A clean tone one.. Like Paul Kossoff's or Eric Johnson.  When I say clean tone one.. a 4 input model that when you turn to 6 or 7 its still not distorted but its loud and breaking up slightly.. So my friends at Guitar Center Hollywood vintage found me a slightly modded Super Bass 100 watt plexi panel head . It has a master volume added in the back but does little to the original tone.  I plugged it in and was so blown away it made me cry. I finally found the Kossoff tone.. It is magic and due to the demand of 100 watt heads being less than spectacular and given the Guitar Center guys are uber nice, I got it pretty reasonable.  Not since I ve been a kid ( a long time) have I been inspired to play by a amp or piece of gear.  It is a magic one in a non collector clothing.  Its in my living room now with a chandler tube driver and a boss reverb.  Its the "Tons of Sobs" tone.  Even with the THD Hot plate set at "neighbors" it is so good.. Sorry I am gushing a bit.  But you know.. As for it seeing action Live, not a chance.. Its my new favourite child right now..

Re: Joe's rig on BCC

I think I'm asking this again, but is it just the M.Vol which leads it to be known as modded...or is there anything else there?  wink
