Sonic Research Turbo Tuner. Easy.
I only say this over the Peterson, because I feel it is easier to use off the cuff and in gig situations and it is built for gigging better.
The Peterson is pricier...but has lots of goodies.
Both make the TU-3 look like a joke.
Lots will say the Polytune...but the feature just seems a novelty to me and it isn't quite as accurate. C'mon, if you have a fast, accurate tuner like the TT, how long does it take to tune up?! For me, the same.
I've used all of the ones mentioned here, and the Turbo Tuner is without question the best one by a mile.
+1 for the Turbo Tuner. It's much smaller than the Peterson, prettier, cheaper and jeez it's fast and damn accurate!
If you don't check your tuning by playing something, are you "sure"?! Call me obsessive. A great tuner as the Turbo ( a knock off of the PST's for pianos ) but are we talking pro gigging or less important ah, venues, such as Ye Olde Wood Sched?! In there you can get hearing beating tones down... among other trix not just for kids or kix...In the studio you may need / demand even more accuracy. This topic tapped into a daydream I was just having Saturday at work......I may be alone and just nostalgic or something, but I kind of miss some of the old fashioned stage tunings. Yes, hearing it actually being done, sometimes with apologies, sometimes matter of factly. And then TEARING into a song headfirst ready or not!!!
And yes, I will admit some acts made it ANNOYING, and it seemed be a lesser (to me, IMHO) proficient act (again, IMHO) or someone (person or group) exuding pretensions...

I use my eyes also and look right at the strings, even in drowned out noisy environments it can be useful to "see the beats". Far-sightedness may be a hindrance.
Rock ON & Keep 'em Tuned, Faithfully if not Flawlessly,
Rocket
We'll end up like Eddie playing the first VH album...especially Ain't Talkin' Bout Love..then Rocket.
I'm not one for perfection...and personally not for Buzz F systems and those wacky Vai fretboards...I'm ol' skool...
...but it is a neat little tuner and I'm always getting down with my Page tunings - I can do them all by ear, but nothing wrong with a backup-box...just incase the venue isn't 'perfect'

Totally agree, all counts, you betcha Dave!
Rock ON 1, and, 2, and, Keep the Time and Faith, and 3, and 4,

LMAO!!!
Gadgets are good. But you'll always tweak to ear. Unless your tone deaf.
How many times can I watch a video of Rory tweaking his instrument(s)....
Answer: Forever!

Peterson StroboStomp is great but a bit pricey (and a bit big) so I just use the new Boss TU-3 and it does the job great.

I hope you guys are right, I just ordered one, should be here in time for next Sat's gig....I'll try to remember to update with a field test.

So you didn't go with Rocket and order a new pair of ears?
You won't regret it. It's an awesome piece of gear! Congratulations on your purchase!

Very cool - the big fat pedal just stood there blinking while the thin one ran rings around it
