Topic: Paul Rodgers in Lynyrd Skynyrd

Gary Rossington mentioned on Private Sessions last weekend on A&E that Ronnie Van Zant was planning on stepping down as lead vocalist of Lynyrd Skynyrd due to nodes growing on his vocal chords and was going to manage the band. Paul Rodgers was the guy they wanted to replace him, but the plane crash made it all a moot point. Paul was also rumoured to be the vocalist in Rossington-Collins in the early '80s, but for whatever reason it never happened. Imagine if that scenario had worked out.

That's such a shame, he had surgery not too long ago. Ronnie is such a great front man. His "contact" with the audience is outstanding. They always put on a great show!

Re: Paul Rodgers in Lynyrd Skynyrd

Geoff, we're not talkin' about Johnny Van Zant, but his brother Ronnie who died in the plane crash on Oct. 20, 1977. Johnny did have surgery in 2005 to remove a polyp from his vocal chord and Kid Rock filled in while he was rehabbing. There's been some scuttlebutt on the Skynyrd forum about Johnny stepping down to pursue his & brother Donnie's(of .38 Special) country project called Van Zant.

Thanks for that JD, stupid of me not to notice such an obvious flaw. Of course I was referring to Johnny's surgery. I never got to see Ronnie live. Many's the slip twixt cup and lip. Saw them live in Manchester the last two tours. Great show!

The original band with Ronnie on vocals. If I recall correctly, even though he was small in stature, he didn't wear shoes on stage, because he wanted to feel the music through his feet.
