Topic: Silverface twin. Any good?

I've been looking at a silver face twin. Anybody have experience with these. I'm thinking it would be a good base clean sound then add pedals as required. How much should I pay?

Re: Silverface twin. Any good?

Depending on the year, I'd try to get it for less than a grand.  My '68 Super is one of the finest amplifiers I've ever played and it was only $800.  If it has the aluminum drip edge they tend to cost more because it is believed that these amps ('68-'69) are nearly identical to their blackface counterparts.  Also, if it has the original Jensens it'll probably be more.  If it has a Master Volume it's probably mid-late 70's.  I've never played a master volume silverface Fender that blew me away.  What is he trying to sell it for?

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

It's mid 70's. It's being sold eBay with no reserve. A bargain could be had. I'm tempted to chance a lowish bid to try my luck.

Re: Silverface twin. Any good?

I have a '77 silverface twin head with blackface mod, NOT the ultra linear model that many say dont have the sound.  It cranks and sounds great. got it for around $400 of the bay, (not a scratch on it, looks like new!).  Has been reliable so far!

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

It's true. I have the ultralinear 135 watt version. I keep it for sentimental reasons only...
