A bit of shameless plugging for Grace - I happen to know Joe likes her and it's not like she's in any sense competition.  wink

Count me in too as a fan of Grace Potter & The Nocturnals.  I haven't seen them live, but I hope to see them in the near future.  She's got a Chris Isaak style of singing with alot of reverb thrown in.

Curby:  I have had the pleasure of seeing her from a pretty close distance and she is not only a very attractive woman but one HELL of a B3 player, and not a bad guitarist either (played slide in an open tuning on a Flying V for a song).   Her guitar player Scott is pretty good too...not a shredder but plays very tastefully.

Make an effort to get out and see her and the Nocs, you shouldn't be disappointed.

P.S.  Amy???  Where'd ya go?

Recently I've crossed paths with Grace playing with others.  I got a nice acoustic duet of her and Bethany Joy Galeotti singing "I Want Something That I Want".  I also got her singing with Reid Genauer on the song "Light Blue Lover" off Assembly of Dust's monumental Some Assembly Required.  I'd have to put SAR with my desert island collection...yeah, it's that good.

Thanks for posting the schedule George. I will probably try to see them in Chatternooger. They are well worth the trip. I was able to see them open for the Mule in Birmingham 2 or 3 years ago. She does have a real sweet voice, and Scott as stated is not Joe, but very tasty play. He had a black ES-335/345 I don't know exactly, but it was the nuts. The crowd here loved them. I'm sure they have improved greatly in the last few years.

I looked at this and thought I'd heard about Grace playing somewhere in the Bay Area and after racking my brain remembered she's opening for The John Butler Trio and Melissa Etheridge at KFOG's Kaboom show this Sat. May 22. This is a listener appreciation party the radio station throws every May. It used to be free, but now they charge $15.00. The show used to take place on the Embarcadero in downtown SF under the Bay Bridge. City engineers determined the piers it took place on were not structurally sound any longer to handle the crowd so this year they moved it to Candlestick Point right outside the stadium in the state recreational area. This is one of the top windsurfing spots in SF, in other words its a wind tunnel. The show is followed by a state of the art fireworks show. Unfortunately we are experiencing unseasonably cold weather with high winds and rain in the forecast for Sat. night or I'd give this a shot just to hear Grace, "butchfest" and all. Definitely next time she comes around.

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I just saw Grace and the band last week here in Nashville. They get better each time I see them! The new band members (new bassist and they added a second guitarist) really add a lot to the sound. The songs they played from the new album sounded really good. What a great band!

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

Before the Mountain Jam thread vanished in the recent forum meltdown I posted that I was then (Friday evening here) watching Grace Potter streaming live from that festival. George, I see what you mean. Wow.

Sadly, I couldn't keep myself awake to see Gov't Mule at 2 in the morning. Does anyone know if there are archives of the live stream?

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

So much to say on many things and it's getting late...trying to remember what gems there were among the ex-posts....

Delighted to have converted you, David!  cool

Grace's new album is released today, pre-orders at Best Buy for $6.99 !!!! (yes, with dvd!!) went so well that it's already on back order. You can download it from itunes for $7.99. In my humble opinion, cheap at twice the price.

Do not expect a blues album or a heavy album, this is a mixed bag of really strong songs, some of which border on pop (I suppose) and even country, with at least three killer tracks. This truly is good music that deserves the success I hope (and expect) that it will get.

David, for another Mule tidbit I direct your attention to the Dana Fuchs topic, once I've updated it.  wink

Re: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals

I came here to report what George already posted:  While scanning through this week's Best Buy sale flyer, I noticed they have Grace's new release on sale this week (thru Sat) for $6.99, and that includes a "Best Buy exclusive" DVD.  I have not even heard Grace yet (guess I could click on some of these links when I have the time), but hell at that price I'm tempted to grab it, solely based on all the positive feedback here.

Repost:  Getting psyched for a short Mid-Atlantic beach vacation capped by a Grace show at the Bottle & Cork in Dewey Beach, DE....not a huge fan of the new CD, much prefer "Nothing But the Water" but I am sure the tunes will be better live.  As stated in previous post, I take crappy pix but maybe I can post a review.

Carl, have you ever been to the Bottle & Cork before?  It's been many years since I've been there, but I remember it being a pretty wild place and I imagine it still is... think "spring break" type of crowd.  Get there early... there's usually a line around the block.  Be prepared for standing room only and getting beer spilled on you all night.  Not that that's always a BAD thing... I remember having beer poured over my head while drunk dirty dancing with some stranger, and having a complete blast... of course I was much younger then!  Let's see... I saw John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band and I forget what other band there... we're talking almost 20 years ago.

if the rock thing doesn't work out (LOL) she can go into modeling. I swear I don't remember her ever looking this good - hair fixed, makeup, everything is just perfect. My son was listening to the song and asked if it was Heart. Don't worry, I gave him the e#t shyte and die look.
