Topic: George Steinbrenner

Just saw on the wire that baseball's most colorful owner passed away this morning in Tampa, Florida.  A man with a huge wallet, he'll be revered as one of the New York Yankee greats.  RIP George.

Re: George Steinbrenner

The way i knew and heard about the man, was through 'Seinfeld'

We've been acknowledging this news on the Baseball Seam thread today as well.

I'm actually reading Joe Torre's book about the Yankee years right now.  Steinbrenner was one of a kind.  May God Rest his Soul

I saw the "calzone" episode about 2 weeks ago, Kramer with his addiction to warm dryer tumbled clothes, and the little incident at the pizza place with all the change he tries to pay with, and then the clothes burned in the oven. One of the funnier shows for sure. Now I guess they become classics.

Rockfarmer,
Now that sounds like an interesting read. Was Joe Torre let go under Steinbrenner Sr. or did that occur when his son took over? I don't know all the facts, but on the surface, I thought Torre got the shaft...

I'm looking for the link to a story I just skimmed in the paper, which has 2 columns....the good and the bad things Steinbrenner did for baseball...
