Topic: WB Custom Pickups

Hey all-

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with WB Custom pickups (http://www.wbpickups.com/). They have a thing where they custom wind a set to your specs, so essentially you have your own signature pickups, which I think is TOTALLY awesome... I haven't heard anything negative about them yet....

You should check here - http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/pickups/.  Forum has a lot of info (history, quality, service, etc.) on various pickup winders - more than you'd want to read.  I have a set of WCR's - love 'em.  Jim's a good guy and will wind anything that you want.  I told him the sound and he worked with me until I got what I wanted.

Guitars: '79 LP Custom, '01 Dickey Betts Goldie - 80 of 114, '00 Chandler Lectraslide
Amps: '00 Marshall 1987x, '70 Marshall 1959 SL, 4x12 JBL D120s
'64 Vibroverb - JBL D130, '66 Super Reverb - CTS Alnicos
'77 Peavey Deuce (great for melting stubborn ear wax)

I have VTHP's and they are great.....However while he is a great winder the customer service side is sorely lacking. I wont get into slamming him but the net is full of unhappy customers due to long waits, no delivery and lousy communication with an endless parade of excuses. I had a three month wait and had to coax them every step even though I was given a three week delivery date. They are just not worth the aggravation IMHO. If you go to Mylespaul watch what you post as they seem to sheild his poor business dealings and you will get infractions or booted at the slightest mention of problems with WB. I have nothing to do with neither party anymore.

Sad, but true.

Hence, the subtle steer towards WCR.  He delivers.  Never seen excuses or complaints.  Lots of other winders are good, too.  If you wade through the million posts on MyLesPaul, you'll pick up on what MarkL is referring to.
