Re: Football Worldcup 2010
I will luckily be in Berlin to visit my family. My son just told me that there were 400,000 on Unter den Linden for the match with Argentina! What a party!
Rick
Enjoy! That's gonna be a good one!

Günther, good buddy!
Every Dutch fan is now thinking of revenge for 1974.
Congratulations on the (for me) entirely unexpected demolition of Argentina. If Spain don't improve, you will beat them.
Tripod - you were right.
That would be a dream final. Well, they still have to beat Spain and Uruguay, though. Brings back memories of 1974. Germany was my absolute dream team.
Sorry Andre, but I'll support Germany. BUT if they lose, it's not so bad because I like the Dutch, too. (they know good beer and have lovely women).
My next post here will be from Germany. I'll be cheering them on Wednesday in Berlin. Hoping for a dream final of Germany and Holland. Good luck to the Dutch. Uruguay, the last team standing from South America, will be a tough opponent. Luck seems to be running with them and hopefully they've used most of it up.

Have a safe trip, Rick.
It's gonna be one hell of a week, one way or the other.
I shall be watching outdoors on two large screens tomorrow night, along with my son, Paul, (Carre tickets ) and hundreds of others on a mild summer night. Can't wait!

I think it took a little more than luck for Uruguay to get past Ghana Rick!
As well as goal-line technology I think it's time for FIFA to consider the award of the goal when the ball is clearly prevented from crossing the line by a defender's hand. The award of a penalty kick which can be missed or saved is not sufficient. Ghana were denied a semi-final spot by Suarez' actions - what are the odds on Uruguay overcoming Holland without Suarez and him then scoring the winner in the final I wonder?
Safe trip Rick! Take good care of Pete's Bonaburst Les Paul................... er... you did remember to pack it yes?
Ian
An article in The Independent - Blatter claims South Africa World Cup a success - but then, he would..... wouldn't he! http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot … 19225.html

One of the commentators on ESPN here for the world cup, Jurgen Klinsmann, said when asked if Suarez's play was fair, that any professional player would do the same in the net to save a sure goal. He said that fairness was not a proper question because it was allowed within the rules. I doubt that FIFA will change it.
Oops, glad you reminded me.... take the Gibson!!! We're off!!! Taxi just showed up. See you in Germany.
Rick.
Come on you Cloggies.
Good luck to Holland tonight. If they can't beat Uruguay I'm a Dutchman.
Phil
Thanks Phil!!
Just 35 minutes to go..............................

.I am trembling already, George.
Günter
When I wrote this I didn´t mean to tremble for the Dutch like I did tonight.

I got to catch the last minutes in the airterminal when we arrived in New Jersey. Congratulations to the Dutch for hanging on agains a tough foe. Half the dream is there. Go Germany!!!!
Rick
Oh, man. There's one hell of a city party going on in Amsterdam...helicopter hovering over the center of town...cars all blowing horns...strangers hugging.....people shouting everywhere....orange everywhere....I got beer down my back when the second goal went in and more over my head when the third went in...then we thought it was all over when it wasn't...then bedlam broke out in a hall probably meant for maybe 200 people where (I'm guessing) about 600 or more were crammed in....I was with my son with whom I've watched all big games since 1990....we hugged and jumped for joy in unison...where have the smilies gone?
Holland with Uruguay ..... Holland squeeze past Uruguay ... Holland's second looked a little off-side.... but their in the Final!
Uruguay, with a population of only 3.5 million..... have done better than most!

Congratulations to all our Dutch friends on the win against Uruguay last night. It would have been a travesty if they hadn't won as they were vastly superior to the South Americans.
Good luck to the German team tonight. They may need it after Paul the octopus (what a strange name for an octopus ) predicted a win for Spain. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/10521867.stm?ls
Whatever the outcome (he's not been correct every time) it should be a cracking game.
Phil
Now I hope Germany will beat Spain so we have a neighsboursfinal again after 32 years! I think germany plays the better football but Holland 'won all the games concerning this Wordcup, qualifications plus tournement. I think thay were 16 wins in a row and that is stunning of course.
For all my German friends: I'm for germany tonight but for Holland this Sunday.
Viel Erfolg heute!

Up to now Paul was always wrong with predicitions concerning Germany and Spain. After all octopuses are only humans, too.
Günter
Thanks for the congrats, Phil!
I entirely agree with Andre's post.

Paul the Mollusk (or whatever) was right again! My condolences to the Germans!
Now I'm sure all the Dutch are on the edge of their seats waiting to see who he picks for the final! Good luck!
