Topic: North East US - Blues Clubs.?

All..

Needing some help..

My good lady and I are going to Canada & The States for three weeks in September / October.
Plan is to go: Toronto - Rochester - Boston - New York - Washington DC...
We will also visit a few places in between.

My post is... does anyone know of any good Blues bars / clubs in Boston / NY / Wash DC that I could go visit..?

I'd rather spend time going to good ones than spend a lot of time looking and wearing down Mrs. Rooster's patience...!!

cheers...

Re: North East US - Blues Clubs.?

In Rochester there's Dinosaur barbecue, they have live music.

You can always go to pollstar.com and type in the city - it will give you a list of gigs with popular artists but some of the local bands won't be listed. But then again once you have a list of clubs you can always go to their websites to see who is scheduled.

Good luck!

Re: North East US - Blues Clubs.?

Not a big fan of the house of blues in Boston.  There are a couple of places in Northampton, MA (on the road between Boston/Rochester) the Calvin Theater and the Iron Horse Saloon - they may have something you would be interested in.  Also check this out:  http://www.showcaselive.com/event-sched … ;year=2010
This place is about 25 miles south of Boston.  I have been to all these places except the Iron Horse(to see you know who) amd they are all nice venues.  Showplace Live is pricey food and drinks - get there early for good seat selection..  Don't know what your travel route is but The Higher Ground in Burlington VT has some good shows as well.  Grace Potter is playing Sept 11 just south of Boston at the Life is Good Festival.  Also Scullers in Boston - usually more jazz than Blues.

Sounds like a whirlwind of a trip.  Any questions feel free to send me an e-mail.

In Boston there is a blues jam at the Acton Jazz Cafe on Thursday night.  Sometimes it's MAGIC...once in a while, though...pure crap.

Re: North East US - Blues Clubs.?

There is also a Dinosaur Barbecue in downtown Syracuse, New York.
In Albany, New York, if you get any chance, (check out online for schedule), be sure to check out Ernie Williams & the Wildcats.  The man is a year older than BB King and still on his feet and busy as all get out.  A heck of a nice guy, his guitarist Dave Malachowski,  has played with Shania Twain, Savoy Brown, Long John Baldry, and to quote Ernie himself in a conversation with me "he's so good he don't know how good he is"! Dave wrote this review about Joe back in April: http://www.jbonamassa.com/forum/viewtop … 63&p=4
Highly recommended.
And actually, for it's size, the Albany area has a vast & diverse amount of musical offerings, much like Boston (a GREAT music city) but not as big and as many.

Sorry I'm late, but I've been sick all week. Here's a link to a site that posts happenings in the Md/Pa/Del area. There are links to clubs also.

The Delaware Blues Society site also has links

The "World Cafe" in Philadelphia has good shows too

I'll keep thinking...and welcome to North America!       Cathy

BB King's Blues Club in NYC has some great food and good music too. They always have someone playing daily on the grill side of the club.
