Topic: Football Worldcup 2010

What a shame that our whole WC thread has disappeared. I enjoyed very much this exchange of opinions. So yesterday after the Holland game (kudos to this not only efficient but also hard fighting team!!) and Ghana/Uruguay (what a drama!!) I missed something. In spite of the frustrations about all these lost posts we should re-animate this thread.

God, the whole WC topic gone.  mad

Yes, there was a wonderful buzz here yesterday late afternoon, as you can well imagine. To be honest - and brief - the quality of the football was seriously disappointing from Holland and Brazil, just like this entire WC has been. I think this is the poorest WC I can remember in terms of great, memorable games.

Now, I'm off to the Tour.  cool

An inspired performance by the Dutch George. Gritty, not pretty.  The party in the streets must have been special. Now to cheer on the Germans for my kiddies.

My dark horse pick, Uruguay, is struggling from game to game but seems to have an inordinate amount of luck on their side. What a monumental choke by Ghana! Now we have a team that can vie with England for PK disasters.  lol
"THE BEST SAVE IN THE WORLD CUP!" said defender Luis Saurez after his red card handball save in the goal mouth to stop the winning goal for Ghana. That was the ultimate professional foul for sure! A moment for the ages in World Cup annals. I think that may eclipse Maradonna's "Hand of God". Suarez, now a national hero, wryly said it was the "El Mano de Suarez".  lol

Re: Football Worldcup 2010

Wow, I see no team that can match Germany. Argentina was looking for revenge after the loss in Germany. They received a lesson in how to play from their nemesis. I think I may be celebrating with my family in Berlin next Wednesday along with another hundred thousand Germans on Unter den Linden. This young team just gets better as the tournament goes on.

Re: Football Worldcup 2010

What a game.
And a thunderstorm and a black TV 5 minutes after the beginning of the second half. CHAOS.
But a TV stick for our Mac and we were in the match after few minutes.
And now chaos on the streets in Germany: horn and Vuvuzela concerts.
We'll heat the barbecue now ...

lol

Re: Football Worldcup 2010

That´s incredible: 4:0!!!!! It seems to the important lesson from this WC: it´s not the stars but the team spirit. I´m happy that my prediction was right: Holland and Germany advance.

Günther, good buddy!  big_smile

Every Dutch fan is now thinking of revenge for 1974.  tongue

Congratulations on the (for me) entirely unexpected demolition of Argentina. If Spain don't improve, you will beat them.

Tripod - you were right.

I never trusted my team. I never trusted Maradona.

Understandable. They did well until a good team came along. I thought it would be closer. They seemed to control the ball well but every time the Germans got the ball, it seemed they would threaten to score, and did a lot. Way too much space for the attack.

Re: Football Worldcup 2010

Spain will play better with Germany than we did yesterday against Paraguay. Paraguay was defending with 8 guys back and only 2 a little bit more advanced looking for a quick play to score. I think Spain-Germany will be difficult for us but we will have more space to play the ball that we had so everything may happen. Fortunatly Müller will have the free day...

Just by chance, this week I will have to see the game in Germany rounded of blonde supporters but I will wear "the red"!! Everything is possible and Spain is already doing history being in semifinals, nothing to lose.

If you are by chance in Stuttgart, there is a Spanish pub called "Madrid", an ideal place to watch a Spanish team playing and have some decent Spanish food. (Nonetheless I will not be there on Wendsday, because I have problems with sad people.)

I will be in Westfalia area but thanks for your advice anyway, I will look for It the next time I'm there.

Re: Football Worldcup 2010

I will luckily be in Berlin to visit my family. My son just told me that there were 400,000 on Unter den Linden for the match with Argentina! What a party!
