Topic: '09 '59 RI question

A friend of mine gave me a limited run (Dupra series) '59 Gibson LP reissue to use for awhile.  This thing is beautiful.  EJ  bought one and told Vic Dupra it's the best LP he's ever played.  It's brand new...only played at home a few times and has never seen service...so, I'm impressed with the setup.  Perfect fret work, string height and action is flawless.
My question is.  The string height is almost resting on the treble pickup ring leaving absolutely no room for action adjustments.  Like I said it plays great, sounds better but my guitars are setup a little lower.  If I can snag one of these $6500 beauties is this the way all the ,59's come?  I remember someone else on here posted something similar about his, too.

The PU's are BB 1 and 2....throaty and woody but still cut...I LOVE this guitar!

Re: '09 '59 RI question

I have a 09 59 LP 50th anniv. Mine is almost perfect. It needed new strings and a pro set-up when I got it but. IMHO, they all do. I'm adding some Grovers and another set of pups to mine. Enjoy yours when you get it! Cuz you will!!!

Re: '09 '59 RI question

I live 5 min from Vic's shop, I really need to get down there sometime soon.  I've just been avoiding it because I feel like the next time I go in there I know I'll be leaving with a Les Paul...

Re: '09 '59 RI question

Just found the info.  This is 1 of 25 Bourbon Burst Flames made.  Yep.  25 in existence!  Eric Johnson has one, my friend has one.  I'll find who has the other 23.  This is a 50th anniversary 59 RI.

I'll post pics when I get home.

This is the best guitar I've ever played.  Period.  I no longer like my 335, my PRS's, my Strat...Nope.  I'm done.

Re: '09 '59 RI question

Mine is the "Antiquity Burst" 1 of 25 made. 2009 Gibson 50th Anniversary LTD '59 Les Paul. I sure do love mine!  big_smile  cool

I'm not the best with a camera and I should have used a darker back ground but here it is!

She weighs 8.4 lbs. I couldn't afford a Billy Gibbons LP so this will do just fine.

Re: '09 '59 RI question

Re: '09 '59 RI question

Danny, check out Wildwood Guitars website. Thats where I bought this guitar and obviously the BonaBurst. If you see something there that you like, call and ask for Troy Benns. He will give you a in hand description of the instrument. Tell him Andy recommended you call and your also a fan of Joes etc etc. Maybe he can help you find the guitar you want. Good Luck!

Also, the re-tooling that Gibson did in the custom shop has made a BIG difference in the quality of the product. Except for the pickups, I think they did a remarkable job building these as close as possible to the originals. This guitar is absolutely amazing to play. Eventually I will add a set of Grovers and replace the pickups. The "Antiquity Burst" is basically the original Cherry Burst but faded. You might be able to see the difference where the pickguard and the toggle ring go. They are included so I will add them back on later.

Stay Safe

Re: '09 '59 RI question

Welcome to the Dark Side Danny! HA, Someday maybe I will pick up a RI but for now I love my 09 LP Traditional

Re: '09 '59 RI question

I texted my friend last night that I should have never took the guitar.  I don't like none mine any more.  I figure I could trade my '92 PRS and '83 ES 335.   Get me in the ball park.  Vic has 2 59 RI's in stock.  One with a gloss and one with the VOS.  I can get a good price...$4400 approx.  How are the RI's different than the Anniversary RI's.?

I'm drifting to the dark side.  Next I'm gonna want a Marshall...Good God.

Re: '09 '59 RI question

In my opinion, the 2009 59 LP 50th Anniversary Reissues are the closest you'll ever get to the real thing. I would imagine, but I don't know for sure that a 09 R9 would be close too. From what I've read and heard from other players is the 09 LP Historic Reissue run is the best Gibson has produced since the 50's. From playing this guitar, I believe it. Now if I only had a real true killer set of 50's PAF's I'd be in freaking LP heaven!  cool

Re: '09 '59 RI question

I have one of the gloss DaPra Bourbon Fade Les Pauls. It is a great guitar. Vic is a great guy to deal with. Along with EJ, Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick has one.

Danny, I did some research. Apparently the Historic R9's do not have some of the refinements as the 2009 50th Anniversary '59 run has. There are only a few 50th Anniversary 59's still out there. The going price is $5999 US. Ask around and maybe you'll get a better price. No matter, I hope you find the guitar your looking for. Good Luck and Enjoy!

Re: '09 '59 RI question

Spider,
What are the refinements?
