Love The Kinks too Rudy, they were as much a part of the British invasion as the Stones, Beatles, and The Dave Clark 5, but didn't get as much respect IMO.

GUN
Mott The Hoople/Ian Hunter
New Bands (new to me anyway)

The Union (OK they haven't released their debut album yet but I've heard it and it is superb)
Special mention for two tribute bands
ThundHerStruck
Illegal Eagles (now Ultimate Eagles)
They may not be the originators of the music they play but they are so good I'd rather watch these guys than the real thing.

Pearl Jam
Muse
Biffy Clyro
R.E.M
Radiohead
Old stuff
Zeppelin
Genesis (when P Collins was hidden behind the drums)
it's a toss up between Rush, Queen, and Little Feat. can't put all your eggs in one country's basket now can you. but again, this is all time, Joe B and band remain my current fav.
Tres
Overall Probably Rush, even though I moan about their output since '83....
My first favourite band was Queen, then Led Zep and Sabbath.
My current favourite band is Opeth, Mrs Slikk thinks I should marry them...
Only one band comes near perfection for me and that is
FREE
Paul Rodgers, Paul Kossoff, Andy Fraser, Simon Kirke, enough said!!!
Old,
Zepp
Cream
Moody Blues
King Crimson
Beatles
Dead
Hendrix
Anything with Gilmour
Robben Ford, all of it
New, Joe is tops, by a mile.

In 1978 my older brother gave me the album Rock and Roll Machine by Triumph because he didn’t like it, I have been a fan ever since. This is why; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbogLtt9UrM
Who is yours, and why?
It's funny your mention of Triumph because I always think of April Wine and Kim Mitchell in the same breath. Last night I saw a great little film called High Life that featured AW's music and closed with Max Webster's little gem, "Diamonds, Diamonds".
Here's a couple from the movie:

I guess you can have a list of favourites but mostly there is always 'someone' be it band or artist you have followed through the eons.
Joe is a relatively new find and more keep coming and will be with me always also but I have followed the music and careers of 4 artists/Band very closely. Thankfully all four are still us with and I hope for many years to come.
Nils Lofgren - he can and has, sat in with the very best and can hold his own no problem. He also has a style and sound that has few, if any, imitators. For me, he is a unique player and until I saw Joe, there was no one to touch him on an acoustic guitar!
Paul Rodgers - I'll brook no argument on this. The finalist rock and Blues vocalist I have ever seen or/and heard.
Robin Trower - There is only one Paul Rodgers and there was only one Jimmy Dewar. When he sang and Robin played, the earth could and did, move. Robin still cuts it today. Would actually love to hear Paul sing with him.
Wishbone Ash - For me, Andy Powells version of the band has the credibility and still produce tremendous music. They are not a tribute act of themselves. The fire still burns.
When I go I'm taking all their stuff with me in the box. Like the Pharoahs of old I need some quality stuff to take to the next world
Haha, too easy: THIN LIZZY
6 Amazing guitarists went through this band! Thats another reason to love em: Eric Bell, Gary Moore, Scott Gorham Brian Robertson, John Sykes AND Snowy White... Thats some awesome players for one band
Also, Brian Downey has been in my top 3 favourite drummers since,, well, I heard Thin Lizzy?! Haha, and thats next to Bonham and Mitch Mitchell
And what can I say about Johnny the Fox, haha, undoubtebly my favourite front man of all time, and amazing bassist and singer, and a superb songwriter...
Thats my opinion anyway

Hey, don't forget Midge Ure.
Phil had to call him in when Gary (think it was Gary) dibbed out on the US tour. Somebody correct me if I have got it wrong. Was a long time ago.
Imagine that. Midge Ure subbing for Gary. Gets yer thinkin' dunnit. Wonder if Midge does 'Viennese Walkways' in his sets these days?
