Topic: Thank you Joe.

I picked up my first guitar at 12, got really into it, and  was soon practicing 5-6 hours a day.
Became decent at it, got into a lot of bands, and kept practicing a lot until my mid 20's, but I never got to the level I want to be at, I just tried too damn hard.. So I slowly started playing less, had a child, got into other hobbies and rarely picked up my trusty old axe, sometime 6 months passed without playing....Life went on they say..I'm 37 now.

Last year I was asked to stand in for a gig and ended up with a bunch of gigs over the year because the other guitarist was really busy. It was fun, but I wasn't really 100% into it.
But a couple months ago something happened, I was browsing a couple forums for some gear info, and saw the name Bonamassa kept popping up here and there, and after a while I hit up YouTube to see what all the fuss was about, and..... Wow. Bought the Royal Albert Hall DVD and was further blown away.

Being "out of it" (music) I wasn't really looking for new music, hey I never even was much of a blues fan, but I found myself  totally digging the songs and the killer guitar work. Totally inspiring , and for the last two months I have practiced every day, learned a bunch of new stuff, and now that I'm not deadly serious about becoming a guitar hero, I'm 10x more relaxed and find my chops is getting way better than back then when I practised scales for hours, wtf?

Oh well, thanks for the huge inspiration Joe, you are playing here in Oslo in less than 24 hours, I have a ticket and look forward to the show!   smile

Re: Thank you Joe.

Welcome to the forum Blix. Yours is a familiar refrain to many here. Players and music lovers who thought Blues Rock was near dead. You are in for an incredible experience when the man walks on stage playing John Henry on the double neck. As the old saying goes, "you ain't heard nuthin yet!". After the show, please come back and give us all a first hand report on how you lost your Bonavirginity. Don't be late, he likes to start right on time. If you want, hang out by the bus after the show and meet him to tell the story and maybe get him to autograph an album. Come on back and post often.

Haha, not Hans please, Amund is my first name smile

So for the concert, what can I say? Incredible is a start, super awesome and @#$%^^&# fantastic fits well too... smile  That young drummer in Joes band, woa, unbelievably good!
Joe delivered and more, and his acoustic solo was jaw dropping.

Two minuses:they didn't play Stop and Joe didn't have his usual guitar rig, it looked like a DSL and a JVM...
While he sounded 100% Joe, it lacked the clarity and punch of his 4 amp rig, but probably only gear nerds like me heard that..

All in all, a FANTASTIC show.

Hi Amund,  smile Happy you enjoyed the Oslo show. Joe's drummer you mentioned.... the one and only.. Bogie Bowles.... who's  been with Joe for the last 5 years, and has just had a birthday.

Re: Thank you Joe.

There you go Amund. Not just Joe but a super talented band. Glad you had a great time. I know he has a separate rig in Europe, and he uses rental gear when there are transport issues. I know he mentioned a problem with the ash cloud a week or so ago. We all have our favorite tunes but if he played them all, it would be a 5 hour set. Hey, Great Idea Joe. I'd pay double!! Take a half hour break as intermission.  smile I'll buy the beers.

Re: Thank you Joe.

Hey Mr. Blix,

Although I'm 'fresh' to the community myself, a warm welcome from me as well!

Always fascinating to see how music (and a good composer/performer) really can change people's lives.

Re: Thank you Joe.

Thanks!

Only downside to this is gear, bad case of GAS have made me spend quite a few $$ since I got back into it.  smile   Stuff coming in the mail way too often, new pedals, and a new amp next week....

Re: Thank you Joe.

Blix, just remember that 90% of that tone is in his hands. I watch the git guys spend fortunes trying to get there. Enjoy the chase. No cure for GAS. but cheaper than fast women.  lol
