That's funny no matter what side you lean to on the argument.

I'm kind of like Old Teddy. I think hyphenated names are silly. Irish-American, African-American, Polish-American, Hispannic; whatever.

Agreed. I see no hyphen in Native American.
How long does it take for one to be counted as native? My family has lived here for over 300 years.

Agreed, no hyphens please. And really the "Native Americans" were really not "Native" at all. Humans are nomadic and move from one place to another through the course of time. If you believe current studies, the real birthplace of humanity was Africa, so no one is native to anywhere.
I like to think of all of us here in this Country as "Americans" be it black, white, brown, paisley or whatever color combination, race or Country of origin you have. Well, maybe not paisley.......
By the way, I'm pretty sure if you stick a pin in everyone's finger, you'll see red blood come out. I guess that means we're all the same on the inside, hey?

Re: Happy Cinqo de Mayo Arizona
Preexisting in a hemisphere for over 10,000 years pretty much qualifies as "Native" in my opinion. Nomadic venturing to the happy hunting ground by way of genocide? Still here. Native. Whether in the Americas or living in Sovereign Nations surrounded by Americans...Native.

Do you think conservative Mexicans sit around in bars drinkin' cervesas groaning about how the Gringos stole all their property(Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, & California), only to have a Native American chime in, "Tell me about it!"

Re: Happy Cinqo de Mayo Arizona
what's cinco de mayo?
(i know it means may 5th, my natural language is spanish...but i don't know why it's a special day)
Re: Happy Cinqo de Mayo Arizona
Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for May 5, a day that commemorates the 1862 Battle of Puebla where Mexican forces defeated the French. It is a minor regional holiday in Mexico. In the U.S., it is a day originally promoted by a brewery to drink and party. Mexicans in the U.S. have taken it up as "their" day to celebrate being Mexican in cities with a large immigrant Mexican population, mostly illegal. The thread came up as a veiled commentary on the Arizona law recently passed to apprehend illegal aliens, predominately Mexican, which are overrunning Arizona and the other border states. Some posters may believe, erroneously, that the law discriminates racially. Mexican is not a race. It is a hot topic of debate, misinformation and inflammatory rhetoric here in the U.S.
