Terry Kath was Chicago's lead guitarist and one of the lead vocalists from 1967 until his tragic death in 1978.  He appeared on eleven of the band's first albums, all of which earned at least gold certification.  His guitar skills won the praise of Jimi Hendrix.  Some of the hits that feature his soaring guitar are "25 or 6 to 4," "Feeling Stronger Everyday," and "Dialogue."  His unmistakable voice graces the hits "Color My World," "Make Me Smile," and "Wishing You Were Here."

"Chicago" and their producer Jim Guercio had a bitter split before Kath died.  This will be the first reunion of Guercio with an original member of "Chicago" in over 30 years!

Terry Kath was a fine guitarist.  I was a big fan of their earlier music when they were called The Chicago Transit Authority and saw them with Kath in '74.  After the concert I came away thinking how many great songs they produced.  As popular as they were I've always thought it a travesty that their music was under-appreciated by music critics of the times.
Good luck with the fundraiser - It sounds like it'll be a great show.

Re: Terry Kath Tribute Concert!

Terry was one of the few guitarists, after Buddy Guy, that ever gave Hendrix pause.  A million years ahead of his time and one of the finest guys.

RIP my ear trained compadre.

Re: Terry Kath Tribute Concert!

Saw CTA open for Hendrix at a show in Oakland in 1970, they rocked the house. With Terry in the band they were more like a rock band with a horn section. Their first album is a classic.

I think, if memory serves, I saw them play Winterland in late '68. Big sound for that era. I don't remember if they had changed the name to CTA then or not. Really rocked the house then too. Just as you say, a rock band with a big brass component.

Re: Terry Kath Tribute Concert!

First record I ever owned was CTA. Got it as a Christmas present when I was 11 or 12. Still love that early Chicago sound which, of course, Terry was a huge part of. I think it was their cover of "I'm a Man" that really got me hooked. Terry was most definitely one of my early "guitar heros".
