I like your style Pete!

When Sandi supported Joe at Southampton you could hear the sound of men's jaws dropping when she came on stage and when she started singing and playing I think every man in the audience fell in love!  Looking forward to seeing her at Hammersmith and Bournemouth (down laurence  big_smile )

Re: Sandi Thom with JB

Nice summation Pete and very amusing. big_smile

I missed Sandi in Southampton so wasn't sure what to expect last night. My only exposure to Sandi had been her rendition of The Great Flood when Joe played at the Gibson Studios. What I heard and saw was a beautiful young lady singing the blues like she'd been doing it all her life. I was very impressed by her voice and in particular her harmonica playing, which was excellent. Of course, the setlist mostly contained material from her new CD (released 17 May), but also included sensitive interpretations of If Heartaches Were Nickels, BB King's Please Accept My Love and an acoustic  duet of Need Your Love So Bad. The other songs were all good with some great Blues, Blues rock and some rocking blues (subtle difference lol).

When you are used to seeing Joe's guitar playing, no one else comes near so it was good to see him bound onto the stage for This Ol' World near the end of the set and boy, he really tore into it with some great licks. Joe left the stage with a hug and a kiss from Sandi (I haven’t seen Pete’s video, so don’t know if he captured that) and Sandi closed the set with the rocking Runaway Train.

Back for an a capella duet with her backing singer, Sandi finished off with a powerful version of Zeppelin’s When The Levee Breaks, which included some very nice guitar playing from Sandi.

Hanging around afterwards, Sandi eventually came out to sign copies of her live EP CD and Joe followed soon after. He was soon pinned up against the wall as we surrounded him. lol and a few pics were taken and questions asked. Joe managed to escape then disappeared backstage. I then left but I understand that he came out again for more photos with David and Michael. Anyone else? Maggie Lydia?

It was great to see Maggie, Lydia, Pete, Michael, David (curryman) and Roger62 last night and I can’t wait to do it all again tonight when we meet up for Philip Sayce. Sometimes working in London has its compensations. big_smile

Re: Sandi Thom with JB

What a great evening, great to see some familiar and unfamiliar forumites there, seeing some more tonight at Philip Sayce.

i thought my mate marcus bonfanti was a great support for Sandi. Good to sit down and chat with Joe as well later on after the gig.

Re: Sandi Thom with JB

Agree with the reviews. What a great gig and I loved the sound in the small venue. Was hoping Joe would do the 3 songs from Sandi's album but it was not to be. How cool was the Levee Breaks version?

Was anyone else bothered by the young drunk female? She laid into my sister after the gig and turns out she is from Aberdeen too. Soon put distance between us.

Yes Kenny, she took my leather jacket and insisted that she would give it to Sandi until Lydia and I managed to wrestle it off her (gently!).

A brilliant evening - Marcus started the evening off well and Sandi was a delight with an excellent set. Can't wait to get the CD on Monday - the live CD I bought last night is almost worn out already! As others have already posted, This Ol' World was fabulous and it was such a treat to see Joe on a smaller stage again.  Sandi and Lyndsey's acapello Ghost Town was spell binding.

Re: Sandi Thom with JB

Thanks for sharing that with us Pete - I was leaning against the pillar left of stage so must have been just behind you.

My tickets didn't arrive so it was the stamp on the wrist to get in. And guess what? They arrived yesterday. Good old Ticketweb.

Wonderful videos as usual, Pete. As I was concentrating so much on taking stills during This Ol' World it's great to have a permanent record to remind me what a fantastic night it was. We've seen some amazing gigs together this year and it's only May.  big_smile

Joe, tell Sandi how to pronounce your name.  lol

Re: Sandi Thom with JB

I've finally got round to uploading my photos of Sandi's show at the Borderline. They're at:

http://picasaweb.google.com/currymandav … directlink

Pete, many thanks for the excellent videos. I've been watching them over and over. Phil, a fine review and well up to your usual standards.

I've been following Sandi since I saw her support Joe at Southampton last year (you're right Lyn) where she was mighty impressive. I've had Merchants And Thieves on pre-order and I'm looking forward to it arriving in a day or two. So I was already looking forward to the show even before we knew Joe was guesting. After I knew, I could hardly contain my excitement at the thought of seeing him in an intimate venue like the Borderline.

It was such an enjoyable evening. Marcus Bonfanti kicked off well and he's certainly been added to my “watch” list. Sandi and her band started with Belly Of The Blues and that gave a taste of the evening to come with the accent on vocals and harmonies. If Heartaches Were Nickels is an old favourite of mine whether by Warren Haynes (who wrote it) or by our own JB. Sandi's version was another great interpretation and I loved it. A lot of Bonabuddy heartbeats started rising as Sandi was introducing This Ol' World and boy did we get a treat. Joe's playing was, as always, in a league of its own and it was a pleasure to see Sandi and Joe working so well together. Ghost Town was just beautiful (pics 17 and 18) and it stuck in my mind all the way home.

And, yes Kenny, I did have an issue with that young lady too. I was rather surprised to feel a hand on my leg at one point so I looked down and saw her face at waist height. She was, of course, trying to get in front of me rather than trying to get to know me better but I wasn't going to move for her or anyone. She wasn't best pleased. And then later she had the nerve to walk off with Maggie's jacket. Cheeky minx.

The last photo is of Joe and me and I'm proud to say I've now met Joe and talked with him in person. He really was very gracious and didn't seem to mind me bothering him at all for the photo. He said he was pleased so many forum members had come out to support Sandi. I would of liked a photo with Sandi but she was busy signing CD's and posters and then I had to get home.

The evening was made even better by being together with all the Bonabuddies and we had quite a gathering for a very special evening.
