Topic: 2550 and Effects

StratPaul, Alex and the other experts.

Running a Ceriatone 2550 and a Ceriatone 18 / 36 watt EF86 through a stero Marshall 4 x 12.  EF86 side has no loop and has a reverb, chorus and OCD out front.

2550 side has a delay and reverb in the loop.  Just added a tremolo to the mix.  Best in the loop or out front?  I kinda like to run a light trem setting all of the time, that's why I thought of using it in the loop.  But, you guys would know better than I.

Thanks,                smile

Re: 2550 and Effects

Jim, your configuration looks already pretty cool.  cool
Maybe i'd try to put the chorus over to loop of the 2550.
The tremolo is great in the loop. But in the end your taste matters.
Does the OCD go the EF86 only?

This is a very interesting setup.
Maybe you can show some clips?  big_smile

Alex, wish I had a way to record so you could here a clip of this rig.  I love it with the LP R8.  Still working on the strat tone.

Yes, the OCD only goes throught the EF86 amp.  I mostly use it on the main channel, but it is fun at times, to jump the channels to get a Vox type of chime into the mix of the 2550.  I really notice a difference using the chorus with a strat, but not as much with the R8.

I just love the 2550!  Other than a reverb, delay and trem in the loop, the only thing I have out front is a wah.  Also, Joe's trick (on the instructional DVD) of using the middle selection (both humbuckers) and the neck PU on 5 and the bridge PU on 10, really gives it a nice midrange bite.

Thanks for your response.  Your imput is always appreciated.

Re: 2550 and Effects

I usually run my tremolo early in my effects lineup so you can hear it over a distorted tone.  If you run it after distortion you get a much more mellow effect which could be desirable.  Joe runs his Fulltone Supatrem early in his rig in front of his amps as well.  I try not to use effects loops if possible because I feel that they can degrade your tone.  Sounds like you have a sweet rig going!  BTW Alex where have you been dude?  Good to see you're still around man!

Thanks. Good to read your posts regulary. I see there's another Bonametal meanwhile. cool
I have been pretty busy at my work and lots of work on my house.
Then there is a little 3 years old angel (sometimes devil) who needs some attention.
So there was not too much time to write. But I was always reading here and there over my iphone.
Try to be more online now. I have another music project now.
I was asked to do the edge part in a U2 tribute project. I was flattered really.
The singer is very good. A hardline u2 fan since childhood.
So I'm working on a setup consisting from two AC-30s (90s with blue bulldogs)
and a Line6 M13 which works and sounds damn cool. I enjoy this new project.
Wonder how it will turn out. But our agency is very keen on that one.

Re: 2550 and Effects

Sounds cool Alex!  I hear you about the house and kids situation.  The niece and nephew get to spend the night every once in a while and they pretty much consume your existence  tongue  .  U2 tribute huh?  Sounds like a lot of fun!  Are you going to use your Hayseed for that?  Also are you going to use the echo on the M13?  People bash Line6 a bunch but the M13 looks like it would be a lot of fun to tinker with.

Re: 2550 and Effects

You know, things that sounds good are good.
I'm an old school guy when it comes to gear.
But this M13 models just stompboxes. Not amps or so.
The quality of the effects, especially the delays are outstanding.
Probably this is not top of the line gear but to have a decent start
to manage all the effects (and there a lot) and not becoming a tap dancer
this a good solution. You just have to lay down the prejudices... cool
If this U2 thing turns out successful then I'll upgrade with better stuff like 19"
devices and digitech ground control.
No I don't use the hayseed here as the AC-30s have just a sweeter
and sparklier top end. They are a lot better for this clean to light crunch thing.

I'll make some clips soon when I have my second AC-30 at home.
But not here in the forum. The mod will probably ban me then because of a supa-dupa off topic LOL!
Btw, are there clips now from your new rig?

Re: 2550 and Effects

Sound clips are done but I'm having a really hard time uploading them to Youtube.  I keep getting an error message  mad  but they turned out really well.  I LOVE MY RIG  big_smile  big_smile  big_smile  hands down the best one I've put together to date.
