Topic: New Klon Pedal Copy

So I saw this and thought you all might be interested.  I have heard people love the Klon for its overdrive sounds.  And Warren Haynes and lots of others are huge fans of these pedals.

I thought the new Love Pedal Kalamazoo was as close as you can get without the 500 dollar + price tag.

Re: New Klon Pedal Copy

looking on this forum is expensive. I need to stop. Costs me a fortune.

Re: New Klon Pedal Copy

jgalvan8804  those proguitarshop matchups are very interesting.  I remember seeing that one a while back and liking the Lovepedal better than the Klon!  Also, the Empress Vintage Modified Superdelay vs. Fulltone TTE was very close as well.  I'm a big fan of the PGS stuff.  Andy's a great player and he does the pedals he demos justice.

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

Re: New Klon Pedal Copy

PGS does a nice job and warrants players to buy from them!! However, I don't think it's fair to compare a Klon to a Lovepedal Kalamazoo. Klons are used best on a cranked amp gettign natural OD- so used as a boost pedal, not to create OD.  Most Klon users set OD at or about zero. Not sure Andy explained the true use of a Klon? Love the guys at PGS, but I found that to be a poor "stand-off"-- not a fair fight, but a good plug for their Lovepedal sales.

A good stand-off would be: Providence SOV-2 (Stampede) vs. Klon.  Two OD's used more as a boost pedal to an already overdriven amp.

Re: New Klon Pedal Copy

You make a really good point t92780.  Some pedals are to be used to boost and already driven amp.  To compare them to a pedal that should be used on a clean amp is an unfair comparison.

I would say though that the Lovepedal was being used in a similar way for this test. So that said if you used them with different settings that would be an unfair test.

I personally think it would be interesting to see what they sound like both thru a driven amp. Being as they sound almost identical thru a mostly clean amp, I can only assume they sound similar if you boost the amp.

But maybe not. Non of us will know until that demp is put out or someone buys both pedals.

Re: New Klon Pedal Copy

I doubt think they'll sound the same when used on an amp'd cranked with OD pedal setting at or near zero on both pedals. I think some will agree that they don't hear a $300-400 difference, but the Klon shines in this environment like a SOV-2 (less then $300).  People like Robben Ford, Matt Schofield, John Mayer, etc use either Klon or SOV-2 and these players are not playing with heavy OD, just using pedal as a boost to their overdriven Dumble or D-styled amps.

As you know, some pedals are to sound like a Dumble amp (ZenDrive, Dumkudo) and others to compliment the tone coming from an actual D-style amp (Klon and SOV2).

Re: New Klon Pedal Copy

The Klon is for all amps.  Warren Haynes does not use a dumble amp and he has one in his rig. Same with Joe Perry. Joe Perry uses old fenders and A few marshalls.

They both use them I believe in the way your talking, which is to boost your already driven signal.

Again I'd love to hear what the love pedal does at volume. Withou the demo there is no way to know if it sounds the same. And I would be hesitant to assume that the lovepedal is for clean amps.  Theres no indication from the demo for that.

Hopefully as they come out people will buy them and let us know.
