Topic: Lesson Learned...

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd share a lesson I just learned today. My tremolo arm on my Strat broke (Let's leave the fender opinions at the door smile) I took it into the store I bought it from for repairs, and they said they'd repair it. 1 Month later and they still claim the Tremolo Blocks are backordered... I went ahead and picked up the guitar today so I can use it for my talent show up coming. We also were planning to just take the block over to a friend who is a precision machinist by profession (Top of class at Ranken Tech, so yeah, pretty good). Turns out the store had tried back-drilling the broken piece out of the block, but didn't center properly, it had slipped, and they destroyed the threads (They didn't even tell us). He said he could have *easily* gotten it out had they not screwed it up. IF we would have taken it to him before the store, we could have saved ourselves the what, 30 dollars for the new block and just had to buy a new whammy bar. So if this ever happens to anybody, take the tremolo block to a machinist, and he can get it out in no time for you! (Even us laymen could probably do it if we had a general idea of what to do). Hopefully this will help somebody who has this issue!

Re: Lesson Learned...

Even easier is to buy a set of reverse threads and do it your self. We carry these and bits plus a battery drill just in case.

Re: Lesson Learned...

That sucks bro, hate to hear that.  Luckily my Jeff Beck impressions suck so I haven't broke any off....yet.  hmm

Re: Lesson Learned...

I think in American lingo, what mbcl referred to is a set of "easy outs". They work very well. Include a small center punch to start the drill dead center.

Re: Lesson Learned...

Yeah, the store tried doing something to that effect, but they didn't center it and screwed up the threads with the drill. Ah well, live and learn smile

Re: Lesson Learned...

Treat yourself to a Callaham trem block. Your Strat will thank you for it.

Re: Lesson Learned...

I've been considering the Callaham blocks. What are all the opinions on them? Are they really worth all the money? I'd love to have one of these for both the tone and the claims that it can nearly prevent tremolo bar breakage smile
