Topic: Marshall Class 5 rattle fix!

Hey guys - I came across this and thought it might be of interest to those who have a rattling Class 5 (like me). I haven't tried the repairs yet but they seem very simple and may do tonight and then update this post.

Re: Marshall Class 5 rattle fix!

They have since ported the rear of the amp to eliminate the rattling problem.  I'm waiting for a local store to stock one of the new amps so I can check them out.  I'm already a little sceptical because I killed one in a store only playing it for about 5 minutes.

You are right they are now shipping the "new" Class 5's with a 3-piece back. There are endless forums about this issue online. You killed one?!!

Re: Marshall Class 5 rattle fix!

LOL I just turned the thing up and enjoyed the decent tone coming from the amp then....BLAM!!!  BUZZZZZZ...SCREECH.....HUMMMMMMMMMMMMM......CRIKIKIKKIKBFFFFF....  so I turn the amp off and slowly walk away inconspicuously.  I dunno what I did wrong. It could have been the crap tubes or cheap construction I dunno...but it was brand new and I blew it up....  sad

WOW! That's the first I've heard of one blowing up...I am unsure as to whether I will attempt the repairs or just wait for the new ones to come in. I spoke to the local music store and they don't know when newer ones will arrive...

Re: Marshall Class 5 rattle fix!

thanks for this info. Will def have a look. mine rattles like hell. running through an external speaker cab obviously stopped the rattle but i felt the tone benefited from the larger speaker cab.

Don't be fooled thinking that the 3 piece back is the fix. I just pick one up on Wednesday (new with 3 piece back) and its going back today.

Super sweet sounding little bugger ......but that rattle and hissing no thanks.

If they can get me one that does make the strange noises I'm all for it.

Re: Marshall Class 5 rattle fix!

I spoke to the shop where i bought my amp and it one of the first batch. Marshall are taking it back fixing the rattle for me. The amp is under warranty so they are doing it for free.

Re: Marshall Class 5 rattle fix!

If you all recall Marshall had an issue on first run of Bluesbreaker Amps, they were burning up or something if I recall.  I went to play a BB when they first came out and it pratically started smoking on me and it wasn't my playing lol.
