Topic: Hello from a new fan...

Hello people, just wanted to introduce myself and tell you how I've stumbled, sort of by mistake, on Joe Bonamassa.

I`m 44 and live in Sherbrooke, Québec (Canada) and consider myself a pretty knowledgeable guitar connaisseur. I've seen some of the good ones, Page, Vai, Satriani, Blackmore, Malmsteen to name just of few and my main interests are 70's rock, metal and prog. My favorite band is Deep Purple.

Having said that I was on Glenn Hughes`s site when there was talk of Glenn returning to rock with a super band. For a few weeks it was anybody`s guest as to who would land the guitarist spot. That was the first time I heard of Joe Bonamassa and frankly I was kinda of disapointed (after all we we`re talking about a supergroup and I`d never even heard of the guitar player, wow some super group we`re takling about !!!). I then decided to look on youtube for some of Joe`s work...Holy **## who is that guy. To make sure he was for real I bought the RAH DVD and was hooked instantly. I since then bought all of his live stuff (personally I much prefer live music `cause it`s how you can judge how a musician really performs. Studio is easy to sound good, but live there`s no hiding place).

My son who is 15 and been playing the guitar for 2 years (and also my concert body, he`s seen about 40 concerts thus far in his life. We`ve seen shows in San Francisco, Boston, Toronto and Montréal of course together) told me how good Joe is and how soulful his music is. We`re not great blues fan but this guy maybe just made me discover a style I didn`t think I liked and that is saying a lot.

Now I bought tickets for the Hampton Beach show and bringing the whole family (well except my cat) and can`t wait to be blown away. It will be a very busy summer with lots of great concerts but Joe`s definitly .one I`m really looking foward to see.

Hello again and great to be here.

Ciao

Re: Hello from a new fan...

Well howdy mightyduck. I'm a fan of Glenn too and I saw on his forum the Bonawho?? remarks. It didn't take long for the facts to surface over there. There was a similar reaction over here to Glenn's association with Joe. Time will tell but I was at the sneak preview show and some good stuff is in store. Stand by for your and your son's Bonabaptism at Hampton. You've seen his live recorded music but the face to face is stunning. Recordings don't do his stage presence and emotive connection justice. Bring the jack to get your jaws back in place. Keep those posts coming. Your son will enjoy hanging out here as there is a wealth of guitar information available and it is a friendly place to post.
