Topic: Moog theremin with Ernie Ball volume???

I'm wanting to get a moog theremin plus and have a set up like joe. Does anybody know what model ernie ball volume pedal he uses?

I'm not sure, but here are the different ones that Ernie Ball offers.

If you're getting a volume pedal, you really wont need a Moog. It has that volume loop antenna on it. You can pay a TON less and get a ZEP theremin off ebay for around $100. It only has the pitch antenna, but as long as you're getting the volume pedal anyways, that's all you really need.

I checked those things out, but couldn't quite figure how the volume aspect worked. Is a volume pedal necessary then? I just borrowed a friend's Moog Etherwave and it's a helluva lot of fun to mess around with. I may buy one of those Zep's, but need to determine what I'll need for it.

Re: Moog theremin with Ernie Ball volume???

the side Loop on a Moog is the volume. Joe doesn't use it... so if you dont have a volume pedal any hand movements on the pitch antenna will be at max volume the entire time.

So you don't need a volume pedal for the moog, but if you plan on playing guitar and doing the theremin, you might want one. Page got along without it.  The "Zep" theremin does not have the volume antenna, just a pitch one.

The way I figure I'd probably start out with a zep theremin, and if it got into the regular rotation and didn't collect dust, perhaps I would upgrade to the Moog for whatever reason.

Oh, I absolutely am planning on trying guitar and theremin at the same time. I have no qualms about ripping that little trick off. I'm looking for a cheap volume pedal on Craigslist right now.

What I was wondering in regards to volume is how the Zep theremin works, since there's no volume pole on it. Does that mean it too is at max volume whenever it's in use?

yup, unless you use a volume pedal. That's what I get out of it.

This may be a dumb question, but how would I hook up the Zep Theremin with a volume and delay like Joe does? Does it just run straight to the PA?

Re: Moog theremin with Ernie Ball volume???

I would put the theremin through guitar pedals, then into a guitar amp. You can either run a line out from the amp, or mic the amp. The volume swell or whatever can be a volume pedal or some kind of line6 dl4 swell...

it's basically a COMPLETELY separate instrument with its own amp and effects.

That's interesting, because doesn't JB just use an input on his Two Rock?
