Topic: Gibson Challenger II?

Hey Bonamaniacs! wink My local guitar shop that I love to death, though they really only sell low-end beginners stuff, has a 1983 Gibson Challenger II in at the moment, marked around $550. I played it, and it sounds beautiful both plugged in or unplugged. I'm probably going to end up purchasing it, but I was curious, does anybody here have any experience with these? Should I hold off? Is it really up to quality? (It felt like new playing it, though it's 27 years old. Bunch of small nicks in it, but that just adds to the character)

Re: Gibson Challenger II?

I believe it's one of those oddball Gibsons that never did well...but not a bad guitar.

Much like the Marauder...bolt on neck...B.Lawrence designed pups (I think). I owned a Marauder once...definitely different.

If you like it, go for it...though I don't think 550 is the best price - I would be expecting more like 450...

Re: Gibson Challenger II?

It was a cool guitar, but I've decided I'm going to hold off and save my money. Right now I'm running on a Peavey Studio Pro 112 or something like that, and am going to start gigging soon with a friend if all goes well, so I'm going to save my money for an amp. I'm looking at the Ceriatone Plexi 50 clone with a Master Volume added once I've got the cash all together smile
